Name: Wren (4) & Owen (17 months)
Location: San Diego, CA
We wanted to create a room that reflected our daughter's personality while staying somewhat gender neutral, since our kids will have to share a room eventually. I did not want to have to redecorate again when our son moves in with our daughter, all I want to do is add another bed!
Our daughter suggested the colors and specifically requested stripes. I painted the entire room while my husband was away on a business trip and my kids were asleep at night. The key to doing the stripes yourself is Frog tape and really taking your time measuring. I tend to want to see things done NOW and being patient with the measuring and prep work paid off.
My favorite part of the room would have to be the book racks by her bed — they are decorative for me, yet so useful for her since her books are literally at her fingertips when she is in bed and would like to read.

Howard Butcher Bloc...
Yellow, grey and white. How lovely for both a boy and a girl. Beautiful!
hello the room decoration is very well .
great space! Looks like the little guy is checking out his digs. Hoping to need my son's room to be shared sometime :) and I love looking at great examples. Thanks!
Looks great!! I LOVE grey and yellow and white...same as our nursery=) I love shared spaces as well...we don't all need our own bedrooms all the time!
Wow Wren has a great sense of style!! :)
I freakin love this bedroom. Gorgeous.
It looks like a beautiful room but all I see is the same corner shot at different angles. I would like to see the other side of the room.
Great job! I love to see shared rooms; especially for a boy and a girl.
lovely!
I am having the hardest time finding grey curtains. Are those a recent purchase from Target?
Thanks everyone for your kind words!
@Megan in AZ: I honestly did not think it through before I submitted the pictures, it was the first thing I noticed as well! The area of the room that you can't see to the left of the white bookcase is just their closet. :)
@ Keri M: Yes! Target still has them: http://www.target.com/p/Target-Home-Basketweave-Window-Panel/-/A-12392341
Everything about this is glorious. I'm so glad your kids have a say in the decor AND that you didn't therefore end up with purple and pink glitter paint. It might be fun to let each kid pick a new color for a stripe every year on their birthdays. Wouldn't take long to do, would make for fun combos as their personalities mesh and collide, would create an interesting series of photographs of their childhoods.
@ Bee for Brian: Thank you! I love the idea of changing the stripe color! :)
I am totally stealing those adorable names. Wren and Owen- stored away for future bebes!
i LOVE the name Wren. LOVE IT!
Great room! I love the stripes - good job. I'd be afraid to do myself. Love the carpet too with the contrast pattern of the wall.
@Chill Murray & Sunsweet: Thank you, we love her name as well. She is a total "Wren", her name really suits her personality! :)
Really well done. Crisp and modern.
Love the room, and love that your daughter is Wren, as is my two-year-old!
Hi Cindy! Can you tell me the white paint that you used? Also does the lighting in the room make the dolphin fin paint look darker that it is? I absolutely love the colors and want to make sure that I get it right. Thanks
