If that sum sounds absolutely insane to you, you're not alone — we're betting most people would agree. But ColorWare seems to be doing quite well for themselves and continues to offer a line of custom-colored Apple products for the person looking to standout from the crowd of "black" or "white"...
The latest from ColorWare is the iPhone 5 at a shocking starting price of $1,700. The price includes an off contract iPhone, but that's still something like a $1,000 paint job!
ColorWare will add some flavor to other tech, not just Apple products. They list offerings such as Beats headphones, Blackberries, and even Xbox 360s and Leica cameras.
You can customize many of the different parts of each product, making the finished product as tasteful or as gaudy as you'd like. For this kind of money it's all about getting it exactly as you want, no matter your tastes.

White Enamel Flatwa...
Complete waste of money.
$1.000 for a paintjob at a phone?!?
Hire me! I'll do it for $990
(Just kidding. Dont have the time to paint other peoples phones. Maybe someday next year...)
Price tag aside, those color tones are pretty nice.
Aren't there places you can buy a stick-on skin for just about any device...for a few bucks? Or a case? Wow. Silly.
If you're going to spend that much on a phone, don't you want a cover to protect it? Which then defeats the purpose of the expensive paint job. And you could easily buy colorful iphone covers and then just switch them out when you get bored.
Wow, this could the stupidest thing I have heard of this year. And it's an election year!!
I saw a replacement covers in various colors at a local shop. The price? $90 installed. Even that's too much for me. I couldn't imagine laying down $1000+! Wow.
Guess this is marketed to the 1% of this country?
This price is pretty surprising and I still can't believe or understand it. Colorware has been in business for years and they have never had an iPhone at such a high price. They're normally a couple hundred dollars. I had them do my Playstation 2 for around $140. I don't understand why they're not still listing the 4 or 4S and for the life of me can't figure out why the 5 would be $1700 when they normally start much lower.
And really @medusa? Whose money could feed them? Yours? Mine? Colorware's? Maybe those people should have thought about how they were going to feed their kids before having them.
