Years ago, the color darling of the nursery world was chocolate brown. Brown, paired with pink or blue, was everywhere.
At some point, there was a chocolate overload (can that really happen?) and a new neutral came to town - grey. But when we recently spotted this lovely striped nursery over at Project Nursery, our strong feelings for brown resurfaced and we realized, again, how warm and lovely brown can be. To us, brown plus ___ is a tried and true classic that is too appealing to call trendy. We're hoping to see more of it again soon. If you want to see more of this fabulous nursery, go on over to Project Nursery for a full tour.

I love grey, but am afraid to decorate in that colour for fear my home will look dated next year when the new neutral is...whatever it will be. Chocolate was the same. I think if you love the colour, use it, just don't overload with it, and it won't look like a trend in your house you haven't been rid of.
Gosh I'm sorry to say it, but I always thought chocolate rooms looked like poo. I could never stand to be in a room that color.
I love this! Very neutral and fun at the same time. But it makes me crave some ice cream..I think it's the whole choclate and vanilla thing. :)
If you like the color combination, then use it. It's your home, and if you get tired of a color, then change it. Who cares what's considered trendy or classic?
I'd always stick with chocolate. I was never much a fan of this new gray trend... too depressing when used on the walls.
Trend.
Is it a trend if it's been around for years? Chocolate is here to stay.
Chocolate brown has always felt warm and inviting to me. It's a great neutral that isn't as harsh as black when combined with other colors. Gray seems trendy to me, but can look really great when done subtly, and perhaps combined with white.
That stripe is having the same effect on the room that horizontal stripes have on an overweight human.
NEVER been a fan of the BROWN but in a kids room like this its cute. Totally agree with the others though that if you like something? Do it! Trend or not. Magazines, websites and blogs should be used as suggestions and ideas not the END-ALL-BE-ALL in what should be done and when. "it's your thang- do what'cha wanna do" :)
Doody...I think of doody.
It's not the color, but how you use it that becomes dated.
Much like any trend, if it's done just for the sake of being trendy, it usually turns out like crap. If you do it because you actually like it, apply it to the right spot and with care, then it will usually just look like a well-done, well-thought out project, popular or not. At any rate, I'm with others here: if you love something, never let the fact that other people decided to like it too affect you. I'm not huge on chocolate brown as a wall color in most places (or, apparently, horizontal stripes), but all that means is my walls will never be brown, it doesn't really say anything about brown walls in general.
I think this is gorgeous- but, the brown/blue & brown/pink for nurseries is a bit outdated. It was the big thing when my son was born and he's eight now.
I can't say I've ever equated brown paint in a home as fecal matter. But, hey. Everyone is different.
I think it's a nice color in certain rooms and with certain other colors, but it can be dark and a bit dreary in the wrong room.
I think it depends on the other color paired with it. I don't like brown paired with pastels like pink or baby blue, but teal or peacock blue? That's okay. I think the best way to make sure chocolate outlives the trend is to use it sparingly and carefully.
It's out. I think brown looks nice in some accessories, but not as a main colour in a room.
I wouldn't do this to a child. I had a chocolate nursery. All the furniture was chocolate, and the chocolate wallpaper had tiny yellow and orange flowers. It was hideous.
I have had almost a dozen homes, and all of them have had rose colored walls.
I love chocolate brown. I definitely think brown is a tried & true color. Brown is a well rounded color choice. It can be a good neutral tone or it can be an accent color. Brown can be combine with many other colors too. You simply can't go wrong with brown.
I think colours are a double standard - in that they can be trendy and classic. Colours can be "in trend", like chocolate brown was a few years ago (especially paired with blue in interiors and with pink in fashion). However, it can be classic, like used in the nursery above. Basically I think it's safe to decorate in the colour, or lack there of in a neutral's sense, that makes you happy. If trends make you happy, go for it, but use it in a way that's easy to change up.
The room is oppressive. Very prison-like. Not a good use of brown.
i don't consider brown a neutral color. it doesn't mix as well with other colors as grey, and it's too strong. in this case, i find it too imposing in a nursery. so much can be done with color, especially in the case of a kid's room that brown seems the dullest of options.
its such a trend, it almost saddens me, like the whole brown and teal moment that was going on a few years back and i still see references to it. If you stick with classic color palettes they wont date.
Gray walls and lots of colorful details. It cannot date.
I don't think that it was chocolate brown that was overused, it was the combination of chocolate brown and pink or chocolate brown and pastel blue that was overused. Brown is a neutral and I personally love. I wish the market would produce more products for nurseries that were not pastels or primary colors. Or only pink for girls and blue for boys. I am so tired of every toy or nursery decor item being pink or blue. Even pastel yellow and green, ugh! What about a nice grass green?
Colors don't become dated. How they're applied and what they're paired with does.
i never have been a brown fan for wall colors. Trend and tired.
having recently moved into a house where multiple rooms featured chocolate brown: trend. if it fits in your style, fine; looking at empty rooms with chocolate brown made me think of poo.
