Name: Annabelle (6 months)
Location: Lowell, MA
This is by far my favorite room in our house. When thinking about the design, I knew that I wanted something bright and cheerful and far from the traditional "girly" pinks and purples.
I started by looking for art on Etsy and settled on some great prints by Sadly Harmless that are whimsical and fun but would still be appealing as Annabelle grew up. Next up was finding the rug — a great graphic black and white chevron that is the perfect canvas for the brights in the room. Everything sort of fell into place from there.
I spent weekends perusing small shops and Etsy for unique art and fabric. I refinished an old dresser in a fun red and swapped in mercury glass knobs to complement the mercury glass mirrors on the art wall. Those will need to be changed to something sturdier once she becomes mobile! Anything basic I purchased was customized a bit to keep from looking too "stock." For example, the basic white storage cubes are backed with a bold graphic paper.
Lastly, I looked for ways to add a little of her dad and I to the room. Many children's rooms have numbers, so I added fabric numbers to some storage baskets, representing my husband's favorite sports figures. I also created some artwork featuring the famous numbers from Lost, one of our all-time favorite shows. All in all I think the room is fun, original, and most importantly, Annabelle loves it!
Thanks Brianna!

That is a beautiful palette. Sophisticated yet fun and playful--great job!
I love how you displayed all the frames and items on the wall above the crib!
The framed artwork above the crib looks wonderful, but will be potentially dangerous once she can stand up and pull it off the wall.
You had me at 'I also created some artwork featuring the famous numbers from Lost'. I typically don't look at the nurseries much since I don't have any kiddos yet, but - this one pulled me in. Lovely.
LOVE this room! Simply beautiful.
This is really gorgeous and so colorful!
A garland? In a nursery? OMG!!!
I love the look, too, but like Americana I worry the artwork could be dangerous, especially that pennant garland. It is really cute but needs to be way our of reach. I've had a child inexplicably wrap herself in a cord I thought she couldn't get at and it was very, very frightening -- the cord was around her neck and arms in such a way that lifting her arms to try to free herself she drew the cord tighter. Thankfully I got there in time. It is unbelievable how quickly this can happen.
My question is WHERE on Earth did you get that fabulous bird cage?? :)
Love this palette! Love the birdcage! Wow, just my style. :)
The pennant is definitely a no-no on the crib, I actually said ACK! out loud when I saw it there. And while I like the aesthetic choices in the room, the idea of little fingers in the bird cage wire makes me cringe. Babies are clever, curious, and so smart, but they have no judgement.
Where is the rug from? I'm working on a nursery for my little girl and am searching for a black and white rug. We're doing a bunting/pennant also....had no idea it was an issue to put it on the crib. Guess we'll pin it to the wall above the crib?
Thanks!
I LOVE this! So wonderful. Except for the location of the garland. Huge choking hazard. It makes me cringe looking at where it's at. I'm sure the garland can find a lovely home high up away from a curious baby! (who will wrap it around her neck--sorry but it's true!).
super cute room..although i do have to admit the garland on the crib is scary..hoping thats more for show for the picture and not something your gonna keep on..and yeah hope the pictures &decor get moved up a few feet once your LO starts standing..i made the mistake of putting pictures next to my daughters bed and heard a crash, (custom picture, one of my friends drew for my daughter for our baby shower) was on the ground..glass EVERYWHERE even some in her crib..yup i took all the pictures off that very moment and has never put pictures with in her reach since!
Love the red dresser and the colorful changing pad cover and little shelf overhead. Cute changing station!
Sorry for the late reply! To all the comments about the garland on the crib: yes I absolutely removed that once she was able to even slightly reach at around 8 weeks. Now it is safely located away from her grabby hands! And I do plan on rearranging the room once she starts pulling up and can reach that birdcage. It's very lightweight and has no sharp edges so I feel comfortable for now. I figure that a room evolves as a child grows so things will be baby proofed as needed. Thank you for the concerned comments though. Beautiful rooms are important but safety always comes first!
As for the source questions: The rug is from Rugs-USA (on sale right now!): and the birdcage is from Iron Accents.
Thanks so much for all the kind comments!
I'm so curious and so surprised that no one else has commented on it, but what's with the framed numbers next to the window? Are you big 'Lost' nerds like I am? Love it; Beautiful room. And little geek touches like that are right up my alley!
Ha, yes, huge 'Lost' nerds!
Love the room, and the paint color. Will you share what color it is, and what brand?
Thanks!
Thanks! The paint color is Sulfur Yellow by Benjamin Moore. Attractive name, no? ;)
love the nursery, where did you get the rug from?
Thanks! The rug is from Rugs USA: http://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/milliken-vibe/techno-black/2795568315-310054.html
