Ours are in a box under the bed. Such a shame to have so many post cards from so many people and places put away where we rarely see them or give them a thought. Wouldn't it be much cooler to have them out in the open, displayed in some creative way? Here are a few ideas that got us thinking, literally, out of the box:
- Put them up on the wall. An organized grid will let the separate elements act in cohesion as one large piece.
- Nicely matting and framing a few favorites can take postcards from under-the-bed to wall-worthy.
- Here's a DIY Postcard Holder from Apartment Therapy Los Angeles.
- This postcard stand by Mocchi Mocchi is such a simple, elegant idea.
- Here's a vintage postcard used as a place card, from vintage Apartment Therapy, circa 2005.

I love the wall color in photo 1! And the displays are great. I was just looking at the new IKEA catalog, and they again show the doorway with postcards around the trim, another great way to show them off.
I collect cheesy postcards on all my trips, so I've accumulated quite a few of them. Currently I just have them taped up on the wall, but I'd like to do something with them that doesn't scream "college" quite so loudly. Nice ideas!
What is being used in Photo 1 to hang the postcards? Curious.
Can anybody tell me what colour that wall is (photo 1)?
I collect white border linen postcards from the 30s and 40s and looked for years for an inexpensive way to get them up on the wall. My solution is Ikea's Clips frame. I put a sheet of paper behind the card because at 4x6, the frames are slightly larger than the cards - just large enough for the paper to make a nice border. This won't work for continental-sized cards, though - they need a 5x7 size, and Ikea doesn't seem to be selling those in the Clips style at this point.
I can't be 100% for sure, but it looks a lot like the teal in my house. I've got "Tropical Skies" from Behr! Don't let the initial blue scare you :) it is 100% teal in person:

@drsoth - looks like they've got them up clothesline-style. See the little grabby-doos on the top of each one?
Though it could be original recipe Scotch tape, in that wonderful packaging-brown color.
I do really love this idea. I've been thinking that I need to change up my bedroom a little bit, namely because I need to put something on the wall over my headboard. It's hideously bare. I might have to dig out my stack of postcards of all vintage movie posters and hang those up!
The nice thing about going the clothesline route with postcards is that it leaves you open to changing them up and thus changing up the look of your room periodically. I'll even occasionally switch up the postcards to match with a theme for a party.
I collect postcards from art shows and artists I like, and since those are always being released and for free, you can have a constantly changing display.
Hardware stores also sell stuff that's like silly putty, but meant for the job of hanging stuff on your walls. I can't remember what it's called, but it'll hold quite a bit of weight (I hang those IKEA CLIPS frames with it), no holes in the wall, no stains on the paint. Lurv it.
Cool ideas. I'm a member of a postcard swapping site... postcrossing.com where you send out postcards to a random person in the world and when yours is registered you get one in return. I've gotten some amazing cards that way.
I LOVE this second photo of the postcards matted and framed... I recently bought some vintage postcards at a flea market and framed them for a "gallery wall" in my bedroom, but I love how these frames house more than one... any idea where I can find these kind of frames?? Especially the ones with 4 slots?
I was just thinking about getting some classy black and white pictures of NYC, Paris, San Fransisco and other beautiful places and putting them in beautiful frames and putting them on my wall.
I used mine as a wall display in our bathroom. http://www.small-batchstudio.com/2012/01/16/repurposed-postcards/ used sticker dots to hold them up. Works pretty well!
I have a collection of postcards mostly from the early 1900s. I've been looking for a way to display them, that when you want to, you can view the back of the card as well. I love the messages, handwriting and stamps on the back. Any creative ideas on how to display both sides and keep the postcard protected?
