When Nicole fell in love with a Pottery Barn desk she knew she could not afford, she decided to create her own DIY version. Using her existing Effektiv desk from IKEA and two wooden filing cabinets she found on Craigslist, she was able to build a new desk that mimiced the look of her Pottery Barn inspiration.
Nicole painted the desk and filing cabinets (only $75 for the pair) in Timid White by Benjamin Moore. She removed the legs from the Effektiv desk and created mental metal braces to attach the pieces of the desktop together and to secure it to the wall in the corner. The side portions of the desktop simply rest on the top of the file cabinets. The change between the before and after is dramatic, and Nicole's finished product is a DIY inspiration.

I think you mean she created metal braces to attach ..... not "mental".
Nice DIY
Nice :)
I built a nice computer desk with wood grain printed filing cabinets and a piece of counter top. The next move it was "appropriated" as a craft table by the then-missus.
Very nice! I need to find me some wooden file cabinets, lol!
I know just the PB desk she wanted too. It's almost impossible to find a large L desk with a curved inside for a decent price and even harder to find one with any style. The only I've found is Ikea's Galant, but it's so boring looking, so thanks for the inspiring post. What kind of paint does one use for that and how do you seal it so things don't stick to the paint?
