Pre-1940 Navajo Rugs and Blankets

Some may have mixed feelings about the style, but now that Urban Outfitters is releasing a line of Pendleton homegoods, my guess is that the Native American textiles trend is here to stay &mdash at least for awhile. And frankly I couldn't be happier about it &mdash especially if it comes in the vein of these vintage Navajo rugs and blankets which are sublimely graphic and timeless.

These pieces all date from before 1940 and all are available for sale at Len Wood's Indian Territory, but they aren't cheap. The style of these early woven pieces is quite different from those that came later &mdash the colors and patterns display a simplicity that makes them seem so classic, and yet almost modern. For a full history of these particular rugs, visit Len Wood's Indian Territory.
