I finally caught the documentary Objectified over the weekend which discusses what happens to designs (i.e. the physical objects) after we're done using them. One of the examples was a toothbrush which is used for a few months and landfilled and it reminded me that I should get my son a Preserve Jr. toothbrush made with a recycled and recyclable handle. I use one myself so why not my kid. You can buy them singly or get a mail subscription.

I just placed my annual family toothbrush order with Preserve ... great green product.
These are rad. Thanks for sharing!
I wonder why they don't make toothbrushes with removable heads. That way you just keep the handle (they don't get damaged at our house) and then you could just replace the head? They could sell the heads like they do razors. Seems like a waste to just throw the entire thing in the garbage.
Preserve used recycled plastic to make the toothbrush and takes them back, used, to recycle again. Anyone know if they can preserve the quality of the plastic for reuse or is it downcycled? They don't, in theory, get thrown away.
I do like the idea of any interchangeable head toothbrush.
The bristles come out. Pass.
@ChristineRogers - they do make these, they have them at my local health food store.
They do have interchangeable head toothbrushes. Example: http://www.reuseit.com/store/ecodent-replaceable-head-toothbrush-head-adult-p-2049.html
I love these toothbrushes, I have been using them for several years. I had no idea they had children's toothbrushes! I'll definitely be getting some once my little guy has some teeth.
(I haven't had a problem with the bristles coming out, and I really wear out my toothbrushes.)
Norwex makes great toothbrushes with removable heads (the base has silver in it) but the catch is that they don't make them for kids, choking hazard.
