In spite of all my efforts to keep vacation "collections" to a minimum, we always end up with a few scavenged keepsakes at home. The beach can generate the most prodigious assemblages, and previously we've stuffed all the shells and dried seaweed and sand into a shoebox. Angie at The Country Chic Cottage came up with a much cuter idea. Her beach in a bottle craft is kid-friendly to make and to save.
If you've brought home some sand and shells from a beach trip, Angie suggests putting them in an upcycled jar with a cute photo from the trip and an identifying tag. It's so simple that it could work for many other trip collections: pinecones, rocks, even ticket stubs from attractions. Instead of a photo, you could use a postcard or even a drawing that your child produces of the trip.
Any way you design it, your kids can help make it and can have their own keepsake from the trip for their space.
