Let's be real: pink doesn't have the best name in interior design. People typically aren't running to their local hardware store to pick up gallons of pink paint. We're certainly not recommending turning your home into a bubblegum factory, but pink here and there can be a successful pop of color that'll really give your place a pleasant face lift!
It's a color that compliments so many others, so it's easily incorporated in an already colorful home. If you're feeling the subtle route, something as simple and small as a pink throw or pink picture frame can really add interest to a room.

I've always hated pink. Once I had to pretend to like it: When I was 7, my dad painted my toy chest pink. It was so cute that he did that, even then, I knew I had to feign enthusiasm.
I never thought I would like pink as much I as I like it in the last photo.
pink is a lot more than a facelift. it is the most spiritually uplifting color on earth. it is sacred in eastern cultures for a reason.
Pink can actually work quite well as a neutral. A pale pink looks great with golds, greens, turquoise, and reds. Clearly however, pink can go off the charts into a caricature of itself, and then it becomes tiresome. Since gray has been THE color of the recession, perhaps pink might indicate some optimism.
I use a pale pink along with ivory/cream colored walls and teal accents in my living/dining area and I love it. I thought I'd get tired of the color but haven't and my husband doesn't nor has ever commented on it. It's not girly girl pink and it is a very soothing color.
Where's the pink in #4?
I see red, orange and brown...
the last room is amazing--where is it/who is the designer?
I love pink. Love it. Even though my "rival" sorority has it as one of their colors and I'm often joked for wearing it, I'll never give it up. Not in an everything should be pink way, but just seeing a pop of it makes me think, now, this is a place with some real soul. Pink isn't a color you can use quietly, because it is what it is, no matter the shade. I guess that's why I like it so much.
The last picture is designed by Abigail Ahern. It's featured in her book, "A Girl's Guide to Decorating". There's lots of pink in that book too, and it's all beautifully done.
So what's up with the pseudo-noose in #3? I loved that vignette until I saw the rope hanging down...
@creativeintheory I so agree! I'm not a pink person, never have been. but that dark gray room with that bright pink coffee table is calling my name!
@architexas, agreed...I think we need to institute a rule at AT, "Thou Shall Not Decorate With Nooses." This also occurred on a recent Halloween decorations post. Call me a queasy-stomach wimp, but it bothers me...
Hate pink, always have, probably always will. But there are occasional exceptions -- I'm ok with peach and salmon, in small doses. Fuschia is ok, again in small mounts. But Barbie pink or anything remotely similar makes me retch. Girlie-girls can keep it!
I love pops of pink (emphasis on the word pops). I constantly try to fight my love of it but usually end up giving in.... Pairing it with more gender neutral or masculine based items/colors helps it stay away from the whole Barbie dreamhouse look.
Love pink.
The idea that pink is a feminine color is a fairly recent one. In fact, it used to be quite the opposite. When it came to color association with babies and children, pink was for boys and blue was for girls. Personally, I think pink, with all of its varied shades and hues, is a color for everyone!
not a big pink fan but used in an accent in the first picture and a burst of color in the last one are something i can totally get on board with.
The "Think Pink" sequence in "Funny Face" proved long ago how modern pink can be. Anyone remember the Quality Magazine offices with the white walls, white floor, and hot pink doors? Awesome.
I am a very Not Pink type of gal. When I moved in to my (first bought!) house, the bedroom was the same colour as pic 5. It actually made me feel phsycally ill to be in there too long. I painted over it, a deep blue.
The toilet was the same colour. And I LOVE it in there! Obiously it's small, so it's not overwhelming. And it's at the south of the house (flip that for the northern hemisphere) so there's not much light, but at dusk the sunset shines through and the whole back of the house is warm and cozy because of it.
I never would have thought that I'd like a pink room!
