As I child, my parents periodically would restock my play kitchen with empty boxes and containers of things we had used up. It was always such a treat to find a "new" egg carton or tea tin waiting for me in the morning.
That is why I love this spice tin project found over at I Make Stuff. Deena saved her ordinary spice tins but instead of giving them to her daugher as is, she prettied them up with vintage labels. She simply found some images on Flickr, sized them and printed them on label paper. For more details and photos of how Deena made these spice tins, check out her blog I Make Stuff.

That's really cute!
Very cute. But I haven't seen spice cans like that since I was a kid. Maybe I can raid my mom's collection of 20+ spices because according to her, "spices don't go bad."
JudiAU- ground black pepper comes in tins like this :)
Great idea! I have been donating old tins to my daughter's kitchen...this would be much cuter though!
JudiAU- Dry mustard comes in cans like this as well.
You could make blocks of wood the right size and decoupage the labels on to them. And, then nothing else could sneak inside the can to drive mama nuts trying to pull out! Of course, round dowels that are big enough could be used to make cans of beans or soup, too!
Thanks for posting this! I love the wooden block idea as well.. Such possibilities!
So cute! I too, remember fondly when my grandmother would "stock the store" (a "grocery store" we set up in her garage) with new spice tins and empty cannisters--so much fun!
