We seem to get a lot of questions about unfortunate fireplaces, in fact there's one on the front page today.
Sometimes, especially when we're talking about a rental, there's very little to be done about it. But as with fashion, the way you dress an ugly fireplace can make a big difference. Fussy screens over tacky fireplaces just make the problem even worse.
So we were excited to see the Contemporary Fireplace Tool Set, Screen, and Log Holder in the C&B Fall catalogue. This is the best-looking set we've seen at this price point ($79 - $179), particularly the screen and tools. They are sleek and unobtrusive, and will go a long way towards not only masking your ugly fireplace, but towards giving it a veneer of style.
$79 - $179 at Crate and Barrel.

I agree ... I've been looking everywhere for a good modern set that won't break the bank. The Crate and Barrel set is the best I've seen.
I see some cool retro ones on ebay sometimes and also Omega Salvage in Berkeley is a good source, too.

That stuff looks like an awful lot of work...
Very nice, but if you bought the whole set, would end up costing a little bundle. I need a platonic sugar daddy fasssssssst.
Another great screen is from Bebop. Its pricy, but very clean and minimalist. You can at Chiasso.
