As the demand for MCM steadily increases, more and more historic designs are being reissued by the large companies that own the rights to these designs. Herman Miller has recently made the Nelson Swag Leg Group available. Originally released by Herman Miller in 1958, the group is comprised of tables, a desk and chairs. The group gets its name from the process used to form the elegant steel legs...

Swaging--using pressure to taper and curve a metal tube--proved the best way to produce the legs, which are 16-gauge steel and have adjustable glides. Nelson added solid walnut stretchers that bolt to the legs for a stable, durable base common to the desk and tables. The desks and tables pack flat for easy shipping. Originally slated for re-release in 2007, the desk and table designs have become available at various online retailers including Hive Modern. Currently, the chairs are not yet available. The desk is especially gorgeous. The combination of walnut, white laminate, graceful swag legs and splashes of color—combined with its pedigree—make for a piece perfectly suited to editorial coverage. I'm sure we will see a lot of the swag pieces in the coming months.—aaron
