Raise your hand if you've had the devil of a time finding a suitable all-natural deodorant. Anyone? Yup, that's what I thought. I've found good all-natural products for most of my makeup and shower supplies. But deodorant? I have run the gamut from Tom's to Weleda, and still been disappointed. I'd all but given up on the prospect when Rachel Winard of Soapwalla contacted me about her line of all-natural, vegan skincare products…
...created by hand in her Brooklyn kitchen and sold online in her Etsy store. Her deodorant cream was a bestseller, and I was skeptical-yet-oh-so-hopeful that I'd like it. Well, friends, the verdict is in:
I don't just like it; I love it!
This is the first natural deodorant that I've ever wanted to repurchase. It really kept me smelling fresh all day, even without reapplying. (Which is amazing in my mind for a natural deodorant.) And even though it's clearly not an anti-perspirant, it definitely exhibited some absorbant qualities that made me feel much dryer than I usually feel with natural deodorants. Here's what is it and how it works:
Ingredients: Organic jojoba, sunflower, and rosehip seed oils; shea butter; a combination of all-natural and gluten-free vegetable clays and powders; aluminum-free sodium bicarbonate; organic vegan kosher glycerin; a combination of organic lavender, peppermint, sweet orange, bergamot and tea tree essential oils.
Description: "This all-natural yet powerful deodorant cream utilizes superfine vegetable powders, clays, and lavender, peppermint and tea tree essential oils to absorb moisture, inhibit bacteria, and ensure a long-lasting and highly effective experience. The frosting-like consistency ensures effortless manual application and quick absorption."
How You Use It: Scoop out a small amount with your fingers and apply to your underarms. It's a thicker, grainy consistency, like frosting (as mentioned above), but it still glides on pretty smooth. That's it! I tried it on both regular and shave days, and never experienced any irritation, redness, or rash. And the smell is very fresh, not at all perfumey or overpowering.
Thanks, Rachel!

This deodorant is amazing. I found it at the Makers Market in Gowanus, and I swear it has changed my life. It works better than commercial clinical-strength deodorants, is vegan (yay!) and has no wierd crap in it. I would recomment it to anyone who has underarms!
i swear by Weleda Sage but I will give this a try.
I just ordered this. I'm going to try it in conjunction with a natural alum-stone (salt, not aluminum) as that's a really good antiperspirant. Hopefully it is as good as clinical-strength, cause when the hormones go off, no natural deodorant yet has done what I wanted it to do.
I've been using this exclusively for a little over a year now. Incredible stuff. It smells great, my underarms don't get irritated any more and I think it lasts longer than 2 sticks of any other aluminum laden brand I used to use.
The only down side for me: It's not as good of an antiperspirant. I am one of those unlucky people who come from a family of heavier persipration.
BUT once I got used to that it is great. I'm not sure we should be holding that in anyway. Natural cooling system for the body and all.
But it is a very effective deodorant. Truly. It's an incredible scent and I love it. My husband tells me I smell great even as he sits next to me on at the dinner table, when I don't smell it anymore. I think it's pretty gender neutral, too. Men can certainly use this too.
Her other products are fantastic as well! LOVE her bath soaks and the clay bars of soap last forever!
My mother has *incredibly* sensitive skin and I've given her all sorts of products (she prefers lavender) and it has not only been without reaction but has actually calmed/soothed some of her issues.
Her boyfriend had skin cancer removed from his face and uses the bar of soap --which she busted him on ;) -- because it felt so much better for him too.
Every once in a while Soapwalla will run specials (you can get email notifications) and she's also committed to raising money for good causes too.
Ok. I'm done. But I needed to share how much I love her products.
They say there's an app for everything and this is the app for me! This deodorant goes on clean and dry (don't let the word cream put you off) and it works! The cost gave me a moment's pause, but I am so glad I conquered that concern because this little jewel lasted me three months!
My favorite Soapwalla product is the Restorative Face Serum. It's gentle enough to apply throughout the day (which I choose to do in colder weather) and yet powerful. I had treated my skin with OTC chemical products for years and had a lot of repair work to do. This face serum has worked wonders. I wish I had known about it years ago. Ladies, don't wait--start at thirty to get the skin you want at sixty!
I just ordered some; so excited! I switched to natural a while back but I have THREE different kinds that I re-apply throughout the day. I'll be so happy if this works!
I've been using this for months now and it's fantastic! Truly amazing.
Okay, I'm pretty much sold, but I have one question: With descriptions like "frosting" and "cream" for its consistency, and "clays" as ingredients... is this something that I will have to skip if I am wearing sleeveless shirts for fear of having it make an appearance?
No, it totally rubs in and is invisible when absorbed. I wore it all summer- with black and navy tank tops- and was perfectly fine.
WOW! This sounds fabulous! Having been using some other ones for the past year now, but can't seem to find one I love. Thanks!
You mentioned in the beginning that you found good make-up products... what do you use?
I will keep my eye out for this. I also highly recommend the roll-on from Real Purity. It is the only one I've discovered so far that works.
I bought some based on this post the other day and it works stunningly well. Shockingly great stuff. Wow.
has anyone found any natural antiperspirants that work? there seems to be tons of natural deoderants, but very few antiperspirants out there. i think I'm one of those people that sweat a lot
Serious inquiry....any unshaven armpits out there using this cream?
This is truly amazing stuff -- better than any other natural deodorant, stone, or homemade concoction I've ever tried.
