Name: Goodbye Detergent! Outdoor Scouring Pads
Rating: Strong Recommend*
We've been talking about using the right tools for spring cleaning and, as you know, what works for cleaning your living room sofa might not be the best choice for your deck chair. If you have a garden, patio, or any outdoor space, big or small, here's a line of tools you might want to check out: Goodbye Detergent! Outdoor Scouring Pads.
We recently had a chance to test all three Outdoor Scouring Pads – Soft, Hard, and Heavy-duty. Like the Goodbye Detergent! kitchen scrubs, these have natural abrasives, making soap or other cleaners unnecessary – just moisten with water and start scrubbing!
Made from walnut shells, the Soft pad is meant for general cleaning and removing minor stains from exterior walls, furniture, wooden decks, and flower pots. We tested the pad on our wooden balcony and found it strong enough to remove dirt, yet not overly harsh or abrasive.
The Hard pad is made with natural magnesia (magnesium oxide) and suggested for removing minor stains on tiles and removing moss and mold on stone. We gave it a whirl outdoors on some glazed pots as well as indoors on our bathroom tile. It got the job done without any scratches and we appreciated not having to use any soap on the tile.
Finally, we tested the Heavy-duty pad, which is made with natural alumina (aluminum oxide) and designed for removing minor stains on barbecue grills, concrete, and brick, as well as removing topcoats of paint. We admittedly didn't have any heavy-duty cleaning needs, but we used the pad to spruce up our neighbor's concrete squirrel and look forward to trying the pad during grilling season.
When finished, we simply rinsed the scouring pads and left them to dry for later reuse. Overall, we were impressed with the durability of these scrubs and the fact that we were able to clean using very little water and no soap. We will certainly add them to our arsenal of reusable cleaning tools.
