This was a product that we were really looking forward to testing. The Numark Fit For Sound with Mixmeister software is a great device for that personal trainer/DJ inside of all of us. When unboxed, it is immediately clear that this thing is all business; No extraneous jingo jango to tango with and everything feels like it has been built to withstand severe levels of creatine-infused fitness enthusiasm. Not just for the Tai Bo instructor, this is probably one of the best ipod docks we have come across...

All important buttons on the dock are easy to read and well laid out... they are also HUGE; big enough for Mr. Magoo to press with mastery and great for a professional environment where they might [read WILL] be abused. An enormous clickwheel takes center stage to scroll through your menus and deal with volume and such.

The backside of Numark's Fit For Sound has all the connections you might need including 2 sets of standard phono outputs and balanced XLRs as well.

There is also a wrist strap remote with play/pause, forward and back buttons. We set up the system in the Unplggd gym to help us choreograph an improved Macarena (admit it, the original dance doesn't do the song justice.) and found the wristband to work flawlessly. All necessary phono and power cords and a battery for the remote are included.

Now, on to the Mixmeister software:

We have always loved the idea of mixing that perfect seduction tape that sparks the flame of love in all who hear it. There were even points in time when we actually practiced a bit of spinning to get good enough to make said tape but sadly, it was never to be. These days, most music is stored digitally anyway so learning to DJ is not that helpful for this purpose.

The included Mixmeister software makes this whole conversation just go away. You can now take any song that you have and mix it with others to make a play time of up to 80 minutes. Mixmeister makes it all SO easy. The interface is very familiar if you have done any kind of editing in the past and there is a great tutorial which gets you going within 3 minutes.

After the tutorial, we had a short mix put together 10 minutes later. This is a drag and drop proposition and all effects are essentially a right click away. The software slows down and speeds up songs AND matches the beats AUTOMATICALLY so you dont have to fiddle around trying to get everything just right. You can also do it manually if you are a nerd. You can save WAVs of your mix as well... for those concerned about sound quality- amazing.

If you are a restaurateur, this is for you. It protects your ipod from being abused while you are off screaming at your bus staff over apathy or telling your customers "That is a good suggestion, I will speak with the chef". This thing takes the beating so your sensitive little ipod doesn't have to.

Anyway, get one- if you are in charge of music in a commercial setting, you are required to buy one. You can pick it up through Amazon.
