A few months ago I was looking high and low for the perfect laundry hamper to keep in my bedroom. It was important to find one that was as handsome as it was useful. I came across many that would be super useful but were also, unfortunately, eyesores. I was ready to give up until I took a casual stroll through IKEA and found the perfect hamper for me.
I ended up purchasing the RUNDEL Laundry Bin. I had been contemplating hitting my local hardware store and purchasing a simple steel trash can but soon realized they were too large for the space behind my bedroom door. The RUNDEL has worked perfectly and the size has made me stay on top of each impending pile of doom.
If you're looking for a laundry hamper of your own, here are some of my favorites I found while on my search:
TOP ROW
• Heavy-Duty 3-Bin Laundry Sorter, $59.00
• X-Frame Laundry Hamper, $99.99
• Brown Bamboo Hamper, $83.95
• ODDA Storage Unit, $199.00
• Rolling Chrome Laundry Hamper, $29.98
BOTTOM ROW
• RUNDEL Laundry Bin, $39.99
• Laundry Carts, $129-$229.00
• Magis Gibus Laundry Bin, £42.94
• Ruffle Laundry Bag, $36.00
• Bullrush Laundry Basket, £45.00

One of those would've been helpful in college! lol
I SO wish the Odda clothes tree was available independent of the dresser!
i got a great two compartment woven bamboo hamper years ago from pottery barn and can offer up a little tip. if you go to the store and buy the floor model, you get 10-20% off. they were on the expensive side but really nice so the discount really helped.
My laundry basket? A tall white plastic with wheels and a handle. I live in a 600 sq ft. apt. with one closet. I had to have something sleek enough to slide in and out of my closet. And I left out the most important part it has a lid. I hate to get on the elevator going to the laundry room, with all my clothes hanging out for the public to see. I purchased at Walmart for $20.00
That "rolling chrome laundry hamper" was tempting enough for me to purchase 2 of them. Problem is, they have deadly sharp chrome fittings that protrude from the handles. Nasty sheetrock damage to my laundry room. No wonder they are reduced in price.
Living on the 3rd floor with laundry on 1st, a rolling hamper is essential for me - bonus if it can be presorted. After a massive recent hunt for a reasonably priced new one, I highly recommend this steal from Bed, Bath & Beyond - just $40! Plus, it tucks away perfectly in my closet. http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?SKU=12413602
I love that chrome hamper, it has such a great industrial feel.
I love the ones with more than 2 compartments, but the only ones I've ever seen in a decent price range are exactly like the first one in the list. I wish I could find something more unique!

Container store has something similar to the ODDA tree http://www.containerstore.com/shop?productId=10028244&N=&Ntt=tree
I actually prefer drawers for my dirty laundry. I'll eventually get the expensive Elfa mesh drawers, but for now I'm using a cheap 3-drawer plastic thing I bought at Wal Mart. Bonus for drawers: you can put things on top of the unit.
