Designer: Germán Brun of DEN Architecture
Client: professional couple
Location: Miami, Florida
With a glut of cookie-cutter high-rise apartments, a Miami couple hired DEN Architecture to add some soul to their concrete shell with a smart combination of vintage furniture and big-box storage solutions — check out the stunning results:
When the burgeoning condominium market in South Florida was at its peak, developers would turn over empty concrete shells devoid of any finishes; these apartments were called "designer-ready." The following project was a case study designed to infuse character into an otherwise soul-less concrete void.
The purpose was to provide a calming, practical, and flexible design for a young urban couple with high-demand jobs. Open spaces, multi-purpose areas, and high ceilings were a few of the strategies used to modify the formal aspect of the apartment. These efforts were complemented through a zen-inspired pallette of materials and artwork. Rich woods, sisal materials, and white leathers provide a balanced ambiance.
The use of reclaimed and restored vintage mid-century furniture was a major element of the project's sustainable design ambitions, avoiding the purchase (and fabrication) of new furniture and all its associated environmental costs. These pieces were combined with modular pre-fabricated storage components from local furniture retailers such as IKEA, which allows great flexibility and opportunities for re-use.
Thanks!

White Enamel Flatwa...
in love with the white cabinets....exactly what I am looking for!!!! Wonder where these are from
sdoscorpio - they might be IKEA kitchen cabinets (or something similar) — there is no rule that cabinets need to be hung on the wall!
I really like the feeling of this apartment. It lacks personality, but a few months of people living in here would certainly do that !
It looks cool and livable.
I think it's funny that the client is designated as a "Professional Couple". Like an "Unprofessional Couple" or "Two people on Unemployment" would have these types of digs.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I don't like it. Its probably way nicer in person, but the pictures of it just seem so COLD and uninviting, even with the few bits of color and natural elements.
I would promptly knock over the 7ft (voyeur?) dude in the bedroom. I'm all for functional art, but "toe-stubber" is not a desirable function.
The white chair is beautiful and does not need that stool hanging around meekly and unnecessarily.
i am thinking now maybe it is besta.
Must. Have. That. Bathroom.
The blow-up over the bed may be an old photo of downtown Miami.
j'dore. Although, being a Californian the tower of books would seem to crumble, i fear, at the mildest of quakes. At least I'd be trapped under reading material! Can't tell you how many times I've been trapped under heavy objects with nothing to do but await rescue.
Where did that chair come from!?
Laughing here at wally3 "toe stubber" remark. Not liking that tower of books, either. I'm not finding anything in this condo really that great . Looks kind of cookie cutter to me.
I bet it feels really good in here - airy light and bright.
@DrTheopolis J'Adore. ;) Moi? Je ne l'aime pas. Il est trop clairsemé.
I actually like the tower of books, just not there. I'm wondering how they got it to stand like that. I'm suspecting that the books are either glued together or have a rod passed through them. Either way, it's a terrible thing to do to books but it's giving me new book shelf ideas.
@Snowdin: Guess you haven't been on here long...that vertical bookshelf was, a couple of years ago, ubiquitous - a bit like grey walls are now.
Nope, A couple years ago I was moving to a new city with my husband and 2 y/o son to finish a BA in photography. In an apt I wasn't planning on living in long, with a toddler and a mountain of work, I wasn't exactly thinking about interior design.
i love the colorful cityscape painting in 1 & 2
