That dress shirt quilt we showed you last week was so gorgeous it got us thinking of the countless ways of using old clothing that we've featured here on Apartment Therapy over the years. When times get tough, the tough get inventive about use and reuse. Here are ten projects we've featured that put old threads to new use:
- Look! Reupholstering With Denim
- How To Make a Sweater Seat
- Sun Moon Lake Recycled Cashmere Quilts
- Dress Shirt Quilt
- Vintage Belt Floor Mat by Ting Studios
- Look! A Dress As A Lampshade

this no sew rug is great, i am making one with some old sheets I died shades of purple. Too bad it seems the site best of DIY has been neglected : (
I love 7&8! I have at least one old t-shirt I want to make into a pillow or something.
Love the belts!
I busted through the elbows of a nice grey cashmere sweater, so I cut the sleeves off & used scraps to patch another sweater. Then I used the body of the sweater to make a new pillow cover for my couch. Instead of a zipper, I used hot pink buttons from my grandmother's sewing kit. Every once in a while I get a little crafty :)
Can anybody source the chest of drawers in the first picture? Is that IKEA??
Where are those tray/drawer cabinets from in the first picture??? I looove them
Can I second the request for identification of the chests of drawers in the first photo?
I'm also looking for the thin drawers in the first photo. They are exactly what I need for a DYI jewelry Armoire I'm thinking about creating.
I just moved into a new loft and Mom made my dog, Ella her own quilt to lay on to protect my comforter. One side is a colorful mix of fabrics, but the other side is entirely made of old khakis! I love it, it matches my dogs fur ;) and it's such a durable fabric for a dog's quilt.

made 10 of the t-shirt totes a few weeks ago. these are FANTASTIC for grocery shopping, i have one that i use as a gym bag...and i 'bedazzled' one as a purse.
also, i've been cutting up t-shirts for a long time into strips and making them into scarves.
I can't help thinking 'butt' when I saw the first pic! I'm definitely gonna make some t-shirt bags.
That is the ugliest chair I've ever seen. Apt Therapy, you're way above this garbage.
I also can't help but love the chest of drawers in the first picture. I have been looking for something like this for all of my art supplies? Any source on these yet?
In the first image both the ugly chair and the lovely flat-file drawers are from Ikea. Yes, Ikea did sell the "jeans" version of that chair.
Love the dress shirt quilt and the leather belt floor matt.
What about old socks - anyone found any good (read: actually attractive) reuse projects for those?
I just love the chair reupholstered in jeans! So cute!
I can help those wanting to make a t-shirt quilt. http://www.decorellaknox.com/2012/09/how-to-make-t-shirt-quilt.html
