Project Runway - we've been watching since Season One (Jay Rules!) and always like the section of each season's finale episode when Tim Gunn goes visiting. Seeing the the homes of the designers is always interesting, and we thought last nights episode was no exception; in fact it was a bit of a "Small Space Big Style" mini episode...
We got to glimpse two very different small spaces last night - one hyper organized and one totally over the top.

Christian's small room in a shared apartment (he said he thought that it was originally a closet) was so tidy! Clearly one needs to be organized produce work in such a small space, but it was still impressively managed. And when he said that he sets up a bed each night to sleep in between the work table and shelving unit, visions of our own youthful NYC apartments came flooding back - yes, we slept on one of those flip out things in a friend's studio kitchen for a semester.

Chris had a more generously sized workspace, but what we were really interested in was his friend's apartment where he brought Tim for a visit. Definitely not huge, it was decorated from floor to ceiling and wall to wall, with patterned fabric, gold leaf, cherubs and more, more, MORE. Chris mentioned that his friend has lived there for thirty years and has built everything in it himself - so much fun to see.
(Oh and while we're on the subject, we thought Chris's 3 piece mini-collection last night rocked...human hair and all - don't you agree?)

the hair was just weird. i didn't look at that as a creative move -- it was like he was just trying to be contrary.
As soon as I heard them say "point of view" (in discussing Rami), I knew our portly friend was toast. Ah well...that rococo apartment gave me a headache...and it sounded like the guy never leaves -- Chris said something like, "he's been inside for 30 years" or something like that.
I love Chris, but I think he'll be much happier going back to costume design. the human hair was a little too much for me!
I could have done without the hair and was surprised he hadn't heeded Tim's earlier warnings! I'm glad the judges didn't tear him apart for it, as I feared they might. Overall, I was pretty excited about the few things we saw from Rami. I can't wait for the finale! (I missed season 1 but have been faithful ever since -- but of course I still love Jay!)
The best part was when Christian mentioned that Chris asked him to brush the hair!
OHHHHH MYYYYYYYYYYY GOOODNESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!
I am sooooooooo happy SOMEONE agress with me!!!! Chris sooooooooo ROCKS! His designs were AMAZING! When you see the garments on a manequin they looked really...ahem...weird. But as soon as his models put them on...WOW! They were GORGEOUS!!!! LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! Especially the 2nd look....halter dress (flapper-ish)!!!! I wanted him to win so bad so we could see MORE! I soooo wish I had FABULOUS places to go so I could wear something like THAT!
Ok....I got it out of my system :)
the reason Rami won last night was the black and white dress....perfect ready to wear without being too dramatic or 'editorial' I loved Chris though - thought he was a great TV character.
Huh, I think if Chris had said that it was some sort of fake fur instead of human hair people would have been way less freaked out. Apparently they weren't allowed to use any type of animal fur so that was his solution instead of using fake. I thought it looked really interesting.
I loved Chris too and was hoping he'd make it. Why are all their collections so somber this season? Lighten up, it's just fashion!
Chris's mini collection was amazing, the judges screwed up.
I liked both Rami's and Chris's collections. As creepy as human hair sounded as a material, it *moved* beautifully as the first of his models walked the runway. He changed my mind. :)
Chris rocks. Loved him from the begininning and I think you have to ask yourself...if never seen again, which designs would people remember more? I think they would be Chris'. He thought outside the box instead of doing the same old designer thingy. People wear dead rabbits...why not human hair. No one was even hurt in the process.
I totally agere with you graefix, I wouldn't have even know it was hair once it was on the runway if, well, he didn't already tell us. But that strapless gown from Rami was amazing as well.
What exactly is so creepy about human hair? Nearly everyone has some. Tons of people are enraptured by the "sensual" qualities of certain types of hair. Look how many people are constantly running their hands through their own or someone else's hair. Hell, people donate theirs to make wigs to be worn by other people.
Get over it.
Interesting that Gillian/Rami and Christian/Chris had such similar inspirations for their collections.
And little Christian pictures were adorable. Too bad he turned into such a harpie.
I don't know why everyone was tripping on the hair. As if no one in the fashion industry ever wore real hair extensions before. I'd rather have the stuff sewn on the outside of my jacket than draped over my head. And the safety pin dress was cool.
The human hair didn't creep me out at all... They were hair extentions folks, the very same ones people have woven onto their heads all the time. Nothing creepy about that...
As for the designs, I like Rami's but Chris' were just so very fantastic once I saw them on the runway... Quite couture!
dude im still reeling over Uli's loss last year !!! and I agree chris was robbed and a lot of what i saw in rami's studio looked like a different color of Christian's last challenge
Isn't Chris' friend's apartment totally crazy?! In a good way and sort of in an oh-so-wow way.
I was thinking that there would be another tie between Rami and Chris. Even with the human hair and all, Chris made it so not scary and totally gorgeous. I think the judges were playing it too safe even though they keep telling the contestants the opposite.
Chris' collection was great, if only the judges had more time to get over his use of human hair. That middle dress from Rami was very '80's.
i didn't like rami's middle dress that much at all (the one nina loved) and was beyond sad to see chris go. putting rami, jillian, and christian in the same show is going to be all puffy sleeved coats and no chris fantabulousness. sad!
yeah. i've grew up with christian. love him!!
That apartment was in. sane.
Completely.
I found it interesting that when Rami *FINALLY* saw fit to do something besides a draped gown, what he produced looked like regurgitated, knocked-off Christian/Jillian.
I think Chris' work was much more creative and interesting and that he should have been chosen.
Clearly, Rami was good for the show. If not, he would have been raked over the coals and eliminated long ago for constantly doing the same thing. Even after seeing those few other pieces from him, I'm still thinking he's a one hit wonder.
i love christian.
i call him The Squirrel.
I love the episode where Christian show's how he does his hair. It's wierd, I hated him in the beginning, but I grew to love him and his work. I hope he wins.
As soon as I saw that human hair, my hopes for Chris went out the window. I knew the judges were going to consider his collection too costume-y. I loved it, especially the evening gown. He's an amazing talent. And he seems like a wonderful guy. He handled losing with extraordinary grace.
I am always eager to see the contestant's studios/homes, and am often left wanting to see more (Laura's, for example). I was surprised at Jillian's apartment. It seemed quite bland. Chris's friend's apartment....it left me wondering if it's a rental, and what the landlord thinks! I can understand why the guy never leaves the apartment; that's a hell of a lot of work!
I LOVE Christian! In the beginning, I was afraid he would annoy the life out of me. But, there's something so cute and charming about him and his fierceness. I've loved most of his clothes but those feather pants have me worried.
I was so sad to see Chris go. I think he really kicked it up the past few episodes. I wasn't crazy about the hair - not because it's human, I'm just not crazy about hair/fur on clothes. That evening gown was gorgeous (even if she couldn't walk - I knew the judges were going to harp on that) and that safety pin skirt was awesome!
I liked Rami all along, but I thought Chris won that showdown 2 looks to 1. Rami's 2nd look was great but when she turned around the pattern made her ass look huge. I think Nina and Michael Kors wanted to get rid of Chris at the last challenge but didn't because Roberto Cavalli was crazy for his dress.
I am so happy to see there are other people who thought Chris should have won over Rami. I thought Rami's looks were a little dull and mostly unflattering on his models. While Chris's looks really popped for me. I loved the hair skirt and just wish I had the body / social lifestyle to be able to wear it!
chris is t-t-t-t-tacky and deserved the boot (both times). my personal fave was jillian, but i was happy to see christian get the top honor.
