Black+Blum is a design firm based in London. Dan Black and Martin Blum make a plethora of useful goods, but perfect for July (and our Green Home month) are their fans.
The Venti (shown above, $610. US) is "inspired by the aesthetics of jet engines" and is made from aluminum and steel. It can be free standing or wall mounted and has three speeds, controllable by a remote.

The Propello is a desktop fan ($130. US) with natural rubber blades. These blades, in combination with a ball-bearing motor, make the fan "virtually silent". Available in grey and pale blue.
According to their site because there are no retailers in the US, Black+Blum "will supply you directly". Check here for more info.

$610 for a fan?
Their stuff is usually better priced than that, but I've had experience dealing with them directly and they're nice, quick, and I love everything I've bought from them (and I've had my little climber light for about 8 years now and have yet to replace the bulb).
I also can't pay 610, but while we're on the subject, can anyone recommend where to get a stylish, retro-looking metal fan that's affordable?
Shannon: I got a little metal caged fan at Target for $12. It has a logo on the front circle that I'm going to tape over with something eventually.
Restoration Hardware sometimes has affordable "retro" fans. Another suggestion would be to check out a small appliance repair shop.
