While the debate between pro-earbuds vs. pro-headphones camps continues on, I'm of the opinion you should have both. I wear earbuds exclusively while running and working out, but there's always the annoying pendulum swing when popped out of the ears. Crowdsourced design factory, Quirky, comes around with a proper solution: Props.
The adjustable length polypropylene and nylon cord tethers earbuds to the neck area, keeping our earbud cord in proper position both when in or popped out of your ear canals. Not bad for a $5.99 accessory.
Or maybe you just need larger earbuds?
Of course, there other earbud tangle preventive measures, some retail, some free, others DIY:

Shaw's Original Fir...
I'm glad I saw these at Bed Bath and Beyond. They looked cool and I'm forever trying to find a way to keep my earbuds from falling down. I saw these Quorky things in the store and gave them a try. When I tried to snap the ring around the cord on my earbuds, the little clippy thing broke off, leaving the thing useless and me out $6. As I said though, I bought it at BB&B and they rock! They gave me my money back with no questions. If the Quorky people ever get these to work I'll give them another try.
the opening which allows you to put the cable should be upside , no??
