We entertain on a fairly regular basis and we always seem to fall short on seating. We've made a cushion for a bench in the living room, but with an impending Super Bowl party — we're still thinking we're not going to have enough seats. Now we're entertaining the idea of stackable stools.
Stackable and stylish stools can certainly be a great solution to our unique dilemma. When we're not entertaining we can simply stack the stools and store them in the basement. We'll bring them up when we're having company and place them around the house. Portability is key since we'd ideally only be using them when we have guests. If budget weren't an option, we found five that would be perfect (two aren't stackable):

I like 1 & 5. We don't really have stools, aside from two 24" ones we got from my mom.
funny you should but this article on the day I just bought a Parri Design Stackable Stool (by Marco Maran) in yellow.
for kitchen stools i used the delectable Kartell spoon stools but am very partial to the Cappellini ribbon stool.

This is a fantastic idea! I'm moving into an apartment with a smaller living area (location, location location) and really love to entertain. This is the perfect solution to my seating problem!
@CordeliaWren: I am currently sitting on one of the 24" stools I bought on Overstock. I really like them, and they seem to be of good quality. However, they are painted silver, and are not bare metal as they appear in the pictures, though I read the reviews and knew that going in.
Does anyone know where I can find 24" folding stools? They have to be minimal and preferably without a back so they take up less space.

I have been desperately looking for extra-tall bar stools (~34 inch seat height) and have had a very hard time finding any that weren't horribly tacky or super expensive. Thoughts anyone?
