Here in SF, the pull-down ironing board was in nearly every home built in the 20's to the 40's. Most of them have been ripped out in favor of shallow pantries, I think. It's good to see them making a comeback! I love it.
Being without a laundry room and limited in space, I am looking for a pull-down ironing board which I can install on the inside of a closet door. Any suggestions?
If you live in SF or across the bay, the salvage yards always have a few of them. The vintage kind require 3-4" of depth and are inserted into a wall. They sit behind a wooden door - kind of like a medicine cabinet, only you open the door and the ironing board is in there, and folds down for use.
Though there are more modern over-the-door versions you can get at, um, target, maybe? BBB? That would probably work just as well for you.
The kitchenaid extender thing would drive me nuts. Having to have the door to the cabinet open like that would result in me bumping into it incessantly while baking.
We had the pull down iron in my house growing up.
We have that drop front on the sink and it has never worked right on top of being a great place to grow mildew if you actually use it. It's only good for storing a tube of hand lotion. I need one of the corner lazy susan things stuff gets back there and never sees the light of day again.
I don't iron so I don't need the pull out, but if I did it seems better than the ironing board my mother in law always has in her kitchen / dinette. UGH! Or the option of raising and lowering it with that horrible screech to put it away each time.
Oh and that kitchenaid thing would bug me too, sciencegeek! Also, nothing could be stored in the cabinet with it AND I bet it wouldn't hold up to dough kneading which is what I use mine for most often.

we have a pull down ironing board (house was built in 1937). It's cool, but you'e regulated to ironing in that spot.
