I agree with beehive. I could see these displayed in an interesting arrangement over my couch :-)
I'd be a bit hesitant to cover it up with my coats and scarves and things.
It doesn't appear from this picture to have any pegs or hooks that stick out, so it seems like it wouldn't be obvious that it was intended to be a coat rack unless you were actually hanging things on it.
