For this collection you guys will have to go easy on me. It has become increasingly more difficult to find purple rooms that I don't hate (probably because it's a terrible color) — so I've expanded my search to include rooms that may only have accents in the most unfortunate of hues.
I enjoy how the purples contrast with the warm tones in the artwork of the first room, and love how that lilac bench in the second image brings a little life into the neutral gray, white, and brown bedroom. If you can find it in your heart to appreciate the purple in things, where does it happen for you?

I. Love. Purple. And I love it in all these photos, particularly when mixed with grey and cream, and hits of raspberry!
i love that you did this post! Personally, I love purple, but i've had so much trouble selling people on this. Glad that you are kind of converting!

Purple is a great color for flowers and clothing. Not so great, except in small, accent amounts, as used in these good examples... for decorating or, usually, food. IMO, as it approaches brown, with the addition of more yellow, as in paint, violet gets less dire. Add more red or blue, and shrillness ensues, or white- mawkishness. Yet these same hues and shades often look wonderful against skin tones. Dunno why, but that's how I see it. There are no bad colors, but....
This post cracks me up. As a fellow purple-hater, I applaud your attempt to make peace with the color, Annie. I'm trying, too. I have not yet repainted my sunroom, which was purple when we moved in six months ago. Since the room is dominated by tall windows, the purple paint isn't too overpowering and I've found that it is actually growing on me.
Aw, purple ain't so bad...
What do you mean, BLT, about it being bad in food? Grapes! Plums! Lavender Chocolate! Blackberries! Blueberries (arguably a shade of purple, not blue)! Eggplant! Figs! Black currant! Raisins! Cabbage/raddichio! "Red"Potatoes! Acai!
Purple foods are Super foods...
Purple is just great! :P
I actually really like purple. I didn't used to, but we now have our bathroom purple and it's just a fresh yet soothing color to me.

How can anyone hate purple?! Although I have to say, some of these really don't pass as "purple rooms."
And the floor in the second-from-left photo on the bottom row is amazing.
I am a reformed purple hater. Purple is a beautifully rich color, and I love how the right shade changes with the day light into night.
Crayola purple is a big no-no in my book though.
I LOVE purple, but not as a paint color (unless it's a dark aubergine). I have lots of purple accents at home -- amethyst glass, textiles, etc.
Oh no, Marianne, I don't mean those purple foods taste bad, they just look terrible when a dish of food is all purple and murky.
All the purple foods, IMO , need to be served with other things to look appetizing- blueberries and blackberries and figs with mint or cream or something, eggplant with tomato sauce or parsley, red cabbage and radicchio look awful on a plate alone, and beets- really scary at times.
Many of those other items are brown-raisins,for example- but they all taste lovely, you're right about that. Damson plums come with their own pretty green innards, and lots of the nicest plums are yellow, red or green.
I really, really love the use of the ceiling as an accent wall. It's amazing. Plus the boxy chandelier is kind of like a tray ceiling, without being so predictable.
I've always loved purple.
My bedroom is a much lighter shade of #11. It's fabulous.

I love purple, though there are many shades of lavender that I find nauseating--too wimpy!
Love #4 and #15.
I always hated purple as a child. Now I kind of like the weird midnighty purples, like the color the sky is after sundown in the sahara. I probably wouldn't paint a wall purple though, mainly because I don't think the boyfriend would be into it. I like room number 4 maybe because of the Moroccan looking wood thing on the right.
I'd rather see purple as an accent color. Purple walls always make me think of little girls in their "I wanna be a princess!" phase. Some of the ones above are interesting, but the color would get on my nerves extremely fast.
I too am a reformed purple hater! In fact, I had a friend tell me that her favorite color was purple--and it made me like her a little less. But then, one day--BOOM!--I not only liked purple, I LOVED purple! Every day, I try to think of a way to incorporate purple into my decor, but alas, it's too late. So I buy purple flowers. And drool over photos of gorgeous purple rooms.
Purple can be a hard color to get right. Get it wrong and it can be super tacky or too childish, but get it right and it can be elegant, fun, dramatic or soothing.
One I love is Lori09's home on Flickr- she has eggplant walls contrasted with apple green and aqua walls and it is perfection! I also saw an eggplant sofa on flickr that I'm loving. Love 3, 9, 11, 12 and the contrast of the art with that dark wall in 8. Am I the only who doesn't see purple in 10?
I love purple. I would paint every room in my house purple if my husband would let me. Some of these rooms though...
That purple ceiling is amazing!
Does anyone remember the purple room photo spread in Domino? Those rooms were very inspiring. Oh, Domino how I miss you...
I've been decorating my living room with purple, and one of my rooms will be a mixture of lilac and green. Seeing these photos, I'm so glad to do it that way. I love purple and it gives some sort of serenity.
perfect complement to bright colors. it tones them down.
Another Purple lover here.
I've frequently debated replacing the Navy Velvet draperies in my bedroom w/ Purple...
...I may have to do it just to be different.
I love purple and just painted my kitchen a hand mixed color I'm calling heather twilight. You have to be careful it doesn't go screaming pink. The grayed purple balances the Ikea birch cabinets, which are yellow-y, and blends in with the stainless appliances.
Orange, on the other hand, I despise, and it's been really popular, so it's everywhere.
The wallpaper in the first photo is a nice shade of purple...raisony color with some brown. Just beautiful! I like everything in #1. I like the purple ceiling idea, also.
This is a (crappy cell phone) photo of my living room. Clearly, I am not against purple:

...And an even crappier photo of my bedroom!

Purple is fantastic. Yellow and red on the other hand. ICK all around.
i like purple , as a matter of fact just painted the media room all grey and one wall purple, more like lavender, added some black and white photos, and put yellow accents in the room. I think it looks great! But you guys are right only in the right amount.
