A quick dusting of TALCUM POWDER will silence those creaks and squeaks. Simply dust it on and help work it into the cracks with an old paint brush. You can also use powdered graphite (found at hardware stores and some art supply stores), but talcum powder is inexpensive and there's a good chance you already have it on hand.
