Name: Quinlan (8 1/2 months)
Location: Newton, MA
I am a huge Beatles fan, and for some odd reason the only nursery themes I could come up for my son with were Lennon-McCartney songs! Strawberry Fields Forever, Octopus's Garden, Rocky Raccoon, etc. But we ultimately settled on Yellow Submarine, combined with aquatic/underwater elements.
We wanted the theme and color palette to be bright and cheerful, to provide Quinlan with a visually stimulating environment. Just about everything on the walls - from the Beatles figurines to the sea creature decals on the wall above the changing table (lots of faces) - was carefully selected to foster his visual and social development. And we've brought in many personal and handmade items, including underwater photos by Quinlan's "grammy," and a blue and yellow blanket that I knit. Most importantly, our "client" absolutely loves it!
The color palette inspiration: "Sky of blue...sea of green..."

Nomade Express Slee...
Wow -- can the child fall asleep in that room? For my children (and for me as well), this would be overstimulating for a place where I'm trying to sleep. I am a firm believer that part of social and cognitive development is some down time when the brain gets to process what happened all day long.
Ain't "Octopus's Garden" actually a Ringo-penned number? Not to all fact-checky on ya.
I love it--colors and Beatles theme are great!
^^^^^^
It oughta read "Not to GET all fact-checky on ya." We could all use a proofreader, as well as a fact checker.
'ALL TOGETHER NOW...ALL WE NEED IS LOVE'..
Thanks for the feedback! Understand not everyone is down with a vibrant color scheme for a baby's room, but we have no sleeping issues in this house - Quinlan started sleeping through the night at 7 weeks and hasn't looked back. The nursery does double duty as a play room, but we have room darkening shades to tone it down for sleepy times. And Glinda, yes, I believe you are correct, on both accounts :).
...one might say Quinlan enjoys his 'Golden Slumbers'!
Great! Fun! I am a total Beatles fan. My 5 year old daughter's name is Eleanor Lucy (heehee). And I think I see an ipod in there - which is great because the most important thing about a Beatles themed room would be the music! Hope the little one becomes a fan too :)
The "Golden Slumbers" comment made me smile. That would be neat to incorporate those lines in a nursery. Sweet.
That green is fantastic. My son loved the Beatles at a very young age. He saw Yellow Submarine when he was about 2 and a half and for Halloween that year was a blue meanie and then the following year was Ringo Starr. Why do kids always love Ringo? Yellow Submarine will be in theaters this month.
@alainnotebook - thanks, and love your daughter's name!
@blueflamingstockings - I know...it's quite a color (thank you, Ben Moore). Blue Meanie halloween costume = genius!
Great room, its so fun and colorful! My daughter's favorite song from the time she was teeny tiny was "Yellow Submarine."
My kids love the Beatles. At 5 and 11, they would still love this room(so would their father). Yes, Ringo is also their favorite Beatle! I think the green paint is awesome.
This is a wonderful room!
love the poster. love the theme, HATE the color. Green is good but that green is just not good.
this is a very cute idea, but that shade of green is a bit of a misstep.
The green looks very jarring. For such strong color a little goes a long way. The color is fighting with everything else in the room. Love the Beatles theme though.
It's a nice room, but that colour is simply awful!
How refreshing to see a children's room in bright, saturated colors! It's a nice change from the white and pastel nurseries. Kudos to Kelly for taking the risk!
Whoa, glad to have sparked such a spirited dialogue on the paint color we chose. Apparently it is quite polarizing! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion; thanks for sharing yours.
I'm glad the parents took a chance. I like the green. I feel sorry for the commenters who think it would be hard to fall asleep in this room; it must be a burden when the parents don't know to turn the lights of AND the children don't know to close their eyes.
"Ah, good taste! What a dreadful thing. Taste is the enemy of creativity." -- Pablo Picasso
my lucy has a beatle's themed nursery (we haven't changed a thing except the bed and she is 4)-- "lucy in the skies" (of course)-- her walls are "marmelade" (melon popsicle, benjamin moore) and one wall is done in cloud paint-- rocking horse, sailboat and normal "clouds". we had a quote on the wall from another beatles song "love you forever and forever, love you with all my heart" (over the crib)
i love it :) yellow submarine is such a cheery idea! have you seen the cute "flap" tee currently available at target? it might be worth getting one for your little beatle fan for the future (i'm not sure what size they started in because i bought 5T :)) i know my daughters "strawberry fields" shirt is one of her prized possessions...i'm going to turn it into a pillow now that it doesn't fit her anymore! (strawberry fields is her favorite song in the world, she could sing it all day long)
It looks great! And you've posted such calm and mature responses to the crazies who think everyone wants to hear their opinion about the paint color. I don't know if I could restrain myself from telling them off as well as you have. I love the theme and how you've been able to work it and pull it all together, and think the color is great! I'm also jealous of your full nights sleep as of 7-weeks!
Wonderful room!! The dark blue you used makes a great contrast to the green. great job!
Thanks again to everyone who shared their thoughts on Quinlan's room!
My FAVORITE movie as a kid and a nursery theme I've always planned to use. Its playing in our city the day after my birthday, so I took as the universe's bday gift to me, lol.
The green is a little bright for me personally, but to each their own. My old bedroom through HS/College at my parents was painted bright yellow, orange and pink, fading from one to another (like a sunset) and people always asked "HOW DO YOU SLEEP IN HERE?!" Um, in the dark with my eyes closed, duh.
PS - I decided recently that for my future kid's fourth birthday, it will be Beatles themed (FAB FOURth Birthday) and the invite will say "All you need is love... and cake"
That's as far with the planning as I can sanely let myself get (since I won't have a kid turning four any time soon) but I'm pretty stoked about it anyway, haha.
I love the blue and green, but then again i've decorated my boys' room with lots of blue and green. But I am jealous, jealous, jealous that Q has been sleeping through the night since 7 weeks! My 14+ month old is STILL waking up anywhere from 2-5 times per night. Perhaps I should repaint the walls in his room this particular shade of green...? (I'll try anything at this point!)
