Our focus on collections this past month has generated a lot of interest in display options, and we've seen some wonderful ways to tweak ordinary pieces to create extraordinary displays. As I am sure my recent movers would be happy to attest, my largest collection is definitely books, and the bookshelves necessary to store them. Though I get by with ordinary Billy bookshelves in my home, I find myself drawn to the unexpected beauty of the shelves above.
These pieces by Berlin-based Studio Proxy twist the form of the standard bookshelf without dramatically affecting the function. These unusual shelves have equally unusual names: Keep It Like a Secret, the King of Siam, even IKEA Hacks. Each shelf is a work of art but one that could easily blend with more standard offerings in any library or living room. The unexpected angles and variations in shelf height allow for a range of storage options and necessitate leaving some spaces completely open, all of which helps to create a one of a kind display that can accomodate multiple collections.
