Name: Rachael
Location: Irving, Texas
My style is 99% from found or repurposed materials. My home is designed with just this in mind. All my pieces have a story of when I found them, and most of them cost me under $10…
I love to bring life to discarded objects and find that a little paint and a lot of imagination can take you a long way. Since I currently rent my home I had to work around some issues. Such as: the homeowner does not want me painting, the rooms are large and long and designing them to have purpose was a challenge. I'm inspired by my junk though, and love that I can find a home for everything!
Thanks, Rachael!

Shaw's Original Fir...
Totally agree with thorndale! This is so lovely!
Tour! Tour! I would LOVE to see this one!
uhm, the "chairs" are creepy :/
Oh god. I hated learning the piano, and yet thinking what that upright's been through makes me sad. :(
I want that piano pronto (so long as it doesn't start playing by itself at night!)
Grinning @ the upholstery job.
Usually people who re-purpose everything also have a 'busy' aesthetic (sweeping generalization, I know). But your style looks curated and clean and I really like it. A house tour would be great.
I want to go to there.
Thanks guys! It's very encouraging to see people like my quirky style! I'm so stoked to have my home featured! Would love to do a home tour if they ask for it :) You can follow me on twitter @rae_cur
I agree with everyone else, tour please! This apartment looks so haunted and I mean that in the best way possible!
Whoa...I can smell the chair in the third picture through my computer screen, and lets just say that the granny that owned it before had more than a few cats. hahaha jk
I'm interested. I want more. Full home tour please AT!
Love the green ex-tv! and the pear on the piano.
Whoa...lovin' the old TV console painted green...genius! You have a fun and quirky sense of style, I like it!
Not sure what's up with the chair comments - I think light reflecting off the nap of the fabric is making people think it's dirty.
This seems very fresh - both in the sense of being creative and overall effect being very crisp.
House tour, please!
I love the repurposed junk aesthetic, but this veers a little too closely to set design rather than interior design. A dining table made out of a door with one panel missing, so that a quarter of its area can't be used? Dining chairs with no seats? A typewriter sitting in the middle of a table where it will only get in the way?
Hooray for creativity, but interior design needs to be both practical and beautiful. This is merely beautiful (in a grungy kind of way).
I commiserate with Rachael over having to live in a space that's so hostile to her aesthetic. That prim house just doesn't want her wonderful, beat-up stuff.
Gorgeous! Great eye, everything really lovely.
House tour, please.
That dirt chair gives me the willies! I like clean... dirty and used is just awful!!
*dirty chair
2 dining rooms? ... or is one a workroom or art installation or something? .... love that deep window though and how you put bench seating in it.
You got it! Ones a workroom! I have 3,700 sq feet, and 3 roommates that have zero furniture (but i'm not complaining!) The door table workspace is still a work in progress. I'm in the middle of putting seat covers on the chairs that are upholstered in vintage coffee sacks. The bench in the window is really cool, I found two bird bath bases and put a slab of wood across the top of them! Turned out sweet!
I keep laughing at the "dirty chair" comments. The fabric is a chenille and the way it catches the light in the pic makes it have shadows. Believe me I am a freak about a clean aesthetic and am picky about what fabrics look like!
Thanks for all the comments! Love reading them!
Off-white upright piano is blowing my mind. I'm hitting Craigslist pronto to find a 'You-Haul-It-It's-Yours' antique 88-key beauty and then it's ON, kids. Thanks for the idea, R!
This is my favorite kind of design aesthetic. Please, a full tour as quickly as you can!
what are your paint colors?
It' so clean and nice! I would really want to see it all. Simple with soul... that's my dream, to have cosy, inspiring, yet simple and practical home.
Add me to the tour requests....
I think this dining room, living room, display room set is the best most artistic display of genius that I have ever seen on this website, and I have been surfing this site for years!! Rachael has somehow reached a place of pure artistic genius in her designs! I applaud this house and would LOVE to see a tour of this whole house as soon as possible apartment therapy!! Thank you rachael! I plan on following you through twitter and seeing where you go in the future!
Love it! The chairs, the tv cabinet, the piano...and the pear on top. What's it made of? was it a find or handmade? It's really neat. Great style.
"Most of them cost $10 or less". I can see why, LOL.
Love the idea of storing books in the fireplace!! Just don't burn the books. Very creative.
