Square Feet:
What I Love About My Small Home:
We fell in love with the large windows and high ceilings the moment we saw them. Good natural light is so important in Portland (you may have heard it gets a little gray here). We also love the picture molding. With more art than walls so it’s great to be able to rotate pictures as the mood strikes us without worrying about patching holes. It was the dining room that sealed the deal, however. We cook for friends and family often so when we saw there was room to feed a crowd -– we knew it was the space for us.
Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space:
Storage, of course, is always the biggest challenge. There are two small closets in the house and both are so full it’s embarrassing. We’re also avid cooks and entertainers and our wee kitchen goes from tidy to a disaster zone in 60 seconds. We’re always working to keep counter top clutter at bay. Most units our size have a second bedroom. Since we traded a dining room for the extra bedroom, we’ve had to get creative. The living space has curtains on wires that allow us to block off the space when we have guests sleep over. Our nephew calls it his fort!
