If you've ever burned your hands on a mug of hot steaming tea, this mug's for you. Stephen Reed (also the designer of the Wordplay Installation with scrabble pillows) made this radiator mug which cleverly incorporates fins so that you can pick it up without a handle. Even with hottest coffee in it. More information on its cool design after the jump.
Reed's clever radiator mug uses the same design principles as the heat sink in your car's engine or your computer. The fins keep your hand far enough away from the cup to keep them from being burned. Sure, that's what a handle is for as well, but this design is clever and elegant, and we like how it combines modern industrial design with simple white porcelain.

wouldn't this also encourage greater dissipation of heat from the liquid itself as well?
uhm, if the liquid is so hot that it heats up the cup to the point of burning the thick skin on your hands, i'm going to guess that you're not actually going to DRINK it. I can't say i've ever sat around sipping a hot beverage and thinking to myself "now, if only they could create a cup that wouldn't burn my hands so darn much"... at that point, the cup is sitting on a table and waiting for the liquid to cool enoguh to drink.
I like how it looks, but I don't think it's got much to do with "modern industrial design", if it's harkening back to radiators for inspiration. And it's $24 for a single mug, which is insane.
Why does AT not mention the price?
The radiator design will also cool the liquid that much faster, which defeats the purpose of drinking a hot beverage from a mug. Also, I can only imagine that the ridges, where the contact to the skin of the palm, are still hot. This idea is very close to trying to convince people that it is ok to touch the radiator--kinda silly really.
