Originating from the Standard Hotel on the High Line, artist Yvette Mattern has created a rainbow of lasers that can be seen for 35 miles. Titled "Global Rainbow After the Storm," the display is a memorial for the victims of Superstorm Sandy, and will be visible tonight and tomorrow.
In other news, an innovative lamp is cool but will cost you, and paint colors have some really weird names. See the headlines after the jump.

Shaw's Original Fir...
A friend of mine and I saw this last night from downtown and it was simply spectacular. All of the sudden there were about 20 of us standing in the street taking photos of the rainbow. Great NYC moment.
Wow this has to be a very powerfull laser. The most powerfull i know is 18 400mW here: http://proaudio.bg/node/503 and I think its not capable of doing that. Thats awesome!
No offense to those that are being honored by such a thing but does everything now need a "memorial?" There was a time Americans would simply brush themselves off, rebuild and move on. Personally I've always thought the 9/11 memorial at the WTC site is way too much and this is just another example of what I believe to be a culture of memorializing everything.
