We've had a few rainy days here this week, and our fort building is getting a little bit old. Here's a super simple idea to file away for the next rainy day.
Kristin from New House Project blogged this "project" over at BKids, and it couldn't be much easier.
Cut out shapes (she did leaves) and let your kids help shred up some old newspapers. Then let them jump around in them, make a mess- and clean-up isn't so bad. If you don't have a pool like this one, we're thinking a blow- up pool would be easier to store if you're going to use a pool anyway, or even a tent (or fort) or a pile of pillows would work.

This is a cute idea...but what about all the newspaper ink?
They do this at my son's daycare - use shredded paper from the office, newspaper, leaves from outside in the fall, Legos...the kids have a great time!
Have them wear black because there will be a lot of ink.
We have the exact same pool in our living room right now as a toy bin. :)
Most newspaper inks are soy-based these days, so it's just a matter of wipes and play clothes.
When my sister was about 2, I did the same thing with packing peanuts. I tell you that was a mess.
We used a sandbox (sans sand) for something similar, only I filled up with pillows and soft toys. My son had a ball filling it up, emptying it out, hiding things and discovering them. Every playroom should have a kiddie pool or non-sand sandbox to fill with fun stuff!
It's not only about getting dirty with ink; it's also about that ink being highly toxic !
I'm much more for the "pillow and toy" bath
We make sculptures from the packing peanuts: http://halfayard.blogspot.com/2010/06/rainy-day-activity-packing-peanut.html
When I get stuff packed in shredded junk mail, I usually dump it out in the kitchen and let him practice sweeping it up.
this is great!!!
but i am having no luck finding a hard plastic pool, where did you gets yours?
