Ooooh rain! We love love love it. It gives us an excuse to stay in our pajamas and our Uggs all day; drink lots of hot chocolate (you know, to keep warm) and to finally tackle a few of those projects we've been meaning to get to. We prefer projects we can finish in a few hours, that give us a sense of satisfaction, and that make our home either more beautiful or more organized. Here's a couple geared towards making your bedroom better; a friend can make them go easier (There's 5 in all so if the rain holds up through the weekend, by next week your bedroom can have a whole new look).
How To: DIY Tufted Headboard: A piece of plywood, a beautiful piece of fabric, a few buttons and some batting add up to a beautiful focal point for your bedroom.
Hilary's DIY wallpaper nightstand project: Use wallpaper, a piece of the same fabric that you've used to cover your headboard or something that works with it. The basis for this project were mid-century butterfly stands; it would be just as striking on an inexpensive nightstand from Ikea; try the Mammut, the Engan or the Hemnes; also consider a change of knobs.
Transform your lamps by wrapping the base of them in twine or, if the base is cylindrical, in cork. Top them off with new lampshades. Vary the thread's pattern to go with your room's colour scheme.
These pillows can be stitched up in an afternoon and decorate your freshly made bed the next day.
And, finally, fold up a faux fur throw at the end of your bed. Not a fan of fur? Use this same technique on your favorite piece of fabric. Silk velvet's a luxurious choice in the winter.

That dog is saying:
"O hai! Kan bee more gorjus on this bed?"
Love the purple pillows and bedspread! Where can I get them??
Everyone keeps talking about using wallpaper to do cool things and it has really inspired me, but when I do a search for wallpaper, I get hideous overly-flowery stuff or weird tapestry reprints that are just not my style. Where does one find more modern wallpaper, such as with geometric shapes and bright colors?
Nevermind ... a quick search of "wallpaper" on AT got me some great leads. Sorry I didn't think of that sooner. :)
I really wish I were home right now so I could get some projects done. *sigh*
Wet feet are only fun when you can ditch your shoes when you get bored of playing in the rain.
I actually made a little list of the rainy day home stuff I wanted to do yesterday and ended up curled up with tea and ten thousand pieces of toast.
I actually need some SUN for all my painting projects :-/
In88,
The duvet is actually chocolate brown and it was exclusively from the now closed Linens N' Things. It also came in "sky" - which I would call seafoam. The "brand" on the label is Pure Green.
The twin set came with one sham, the king came with two.
200 thread count, 100% organic cotton percale.
The sham is reversable with the colors switching positions on the opposite side.
UPC for "chocolate": 84390800116
UPC for "sky": 843908000143
good luck!
Currently living in dry dry dry SoCal, god, I miss the rain. Now I do projects inside in the air conditioning when it's too damn hot to go outside. Hot sunny weather: not as wonderful as northerners think it will be.
