Hilary's DIY wallpaper nightstand project: Use wallpaper, a piece of the same fabric that you've used to cover your headboard or something that works with it. The basis for this project were mid-century butterfly stands; it would be just as striking on an inexpensive nightstand from Ikea; try the Mammut, the Engan or the Hemnes; also consider a change of knobs. Transform your lamps by wrapping the base of them in twine or, if the base is cylindrical, in cork. Top them off with new lampshades. Vary the thread's pattern to go with your room's colour scheme. Use this same technique on your favorite piece of fabric. Silk velvet's a luxurious choice in the winter.
