Location: London, Ontario
This is our son Ralphie's room, slightly revamped from when he was a baby. We live in student housing, so the room is both small (9x11) and shabby (check out those rubber baseboards! Or, wait, don't check them out). We wanted his room to be open, colourful, airy, and full of interesting things to look at.
We were lucky that a previous tenant added shelves to the closet space. We painted them white and completely removed the doors. I edged the shelves with ribbons, and made the curtains and the duvet cover for the bed. The fantastic crewel-work vintage embroidery and vintage toy box were amazing $5.00 thrift store finds. The dresser is a thrift find ($35.00) and the toddler bed is second-hand Pottery Barn.
We didn't spend a lot decorating this room — most of it was second-hand, homemade, or repurposed from other rooms in the house. We did splurge on those giant white baskets from Solutions ($20.00 each if I remember correctly), and they've held up now for almost three years, hiding everything we want hidden.
Thanks, Ann! Readers, you can see more of Ann's projects at her blog, The Velvet Aubergine.
