When I became pregnant I was excited to turn this small second bedroom into a nursery. I had already stenciled the birds on the wall and made the feather light fixture, so I decided to make animals part of the theme of the room and add an alphabet element as well.
The color scheme emerged after I picked the fabric that I used to recover the glider, and my mom bought me the Marimekko fabric piece for a wall hanging.
The room is quite small (9x12) and has no closet, but I was able to fit everything in that I need in a nursery. I repurposed some pieces in the room to make them more nursery appropriate, adding extendable legs to my desk to make it a changing table that would fit over the dresser, and my brother made the panda stencil for the armoire to make it more fun. Many other pieces in the room were contributed by family members as well – the heart wall hanging was made by Ray's great aunt, the quilt on the end of the crib made by his grandmother, the alphabet birth announcement made by his other grandmother.
Other pieces made by family were handed down to us - the alphabet sampler was made by Ray's great-grandmother, and the blanket on the glider was made by his great-great-grandmother! I can feel the love of our family every time I am in his little room.
