Name: Lisa S.
Location: Managua, Nicaragua
Link: Hostels Central
Description: I travel to Nicaragua via a nonprofit called Love Light and Melody to provide support to an impoverished community called La Chureca. It's an amazing, shattering, loving trip. I've been twice and plan to go again...

The hotel - Los Cisneros - is a family-owned and operated hidden gem, located centrally. They're extremely welcoming and have become a host partner of LL&M. They serve a simple breakfast, have an abundance of hammocks, and love to hang out with us!

Our troops include musicians, surfers, artists, college kids, family friends, and local partners. A typical trip includes the La Chureca community, orphanages, the pediatric cancer ward at the Managua Hospital, a health clinic (La Clinica Susie Syke), and in 2007, a youth rally with attendance in the tens of thousands (estimates ranged from 30-80k).
