NeighborSpace works to purchase and protect community gardens, many of which were once vacant lots. They focus on parcels where neighborhood groups have already established gardens or parks. By working with governmental agencies, private and public partners and non-profits, they aim to "preserve the beauty and legacy of community gardens in Chicago". The photo gallery shows off some gorgeous greenspace and a map shows you where the over 50 existing gardens are throughout the city. So, as Leah suggests, if you are a gardener with out a garden, you and NeighborSpace may be a perfect match! Volunteer info is here. Thanks Leah! (Re-edited from a post originally published 06.14.06)
