White Enamel Flatwa...
How funny, I totally did this in my own room! I painted the walls Behr's Sparrow Gray, and did my trim an Eggshell and kept all my bedding and headboard bright whites. I love the look, but I'm starting to want more from my room in terms of color. Do you think I could add artwork with hints of turquoise and not have them war with the gray and white colors?
I actually just painted my bedroom grey and have been thinking about my bedding a lot. I just bought the souk rug from West Elm and painted my side table a minty color for a bright pop of color. But I love your bedding and was wondering if you can share where it's from? Thanks!!!
Does gray always close in the walls, or only because you choose a more saturated color? I'd love to paint my bathroom a light gray, but now I'm concerned that it will make it feel smaller.
Hi Everyone!
JU: The white quilts and grey sheets are from Homegoods, but you can find similar things on overstock.com. I almost bought this, in fact: http://www.overstock.com/Bedding-Bath/Adele-Cotton-King-size-White-Quilt-Set/6580161/product.html
The throw pillows are from Etsy seller Gypsya, and I was even more in love when I saw them in person, so I definitely recommend them! Find them here: http://www.etsy.com/listing/99691455/organic-beautiful-handmade-applique?ref=sr_gallery_20&ga_search_query=white+pillow&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=ZZ&ga_min=0&ga_max=0&ga_search_type=handmade
LISANHAM: I think its more about the saturation and darkness of this particular grey (and many that are popular right now) that closes it in. I don't think a light grey would have the same effect.
Oh! And KELINKA: I love the idea of other colors with this color scheme. We have a lot of reds and pinks in our rug and I really like it against the grey and white. Also, check out the turquoise my friend incorporated in a room that's the exact same color as mine! http://www.75thandsedgwick.com/2012/07/finally-art-on-wall.html
your bedroom looks very peaceful. and those are gorgeous throw pillows!
thanks for the informative video! grey's my favorite color.
Bedroom is hot. I would look forward to this apartment tour!
Cate, love love love that rug. where is it from?
Cate, what color gray have you used? There are so many grays available at the paint store but every sample I have tried is much too purple or blue...
Hi Again!
ALLFOURBURNERS: Thank you! It's one of our favorite things. The rug is from http://esalerugs.com/. I think it's really hard to buy a rug online, but it helps that this company has a huge selection and a good return policy.
GLENDA.SCHULTZBARNES: It's Benjamin Moore's Kendall Charcoal. Good luck!
I too did something similar in an apartment I owned—painted every room but the bathrooms a fairly dark gray, custom mixed at the paint store, with antique white trim in some places, natural wood trim in others. We started with a medium gray and added some red and some blue, giving it a dramatic cast. I found that it was spectacular for hanging artwork and made it pop like the art never had a chance to do on a white wall. It also went great with seafoam and beachy colors—soft pastels, that is—in the furniture and accessories, as well as with natural woods. I topped (bottomed?) it off with a white carpet. I loved that look. Unfortunately, I don't live there any more!
One last thing: My gray was very similar to Cate's on the light-to-dark scale, and not unlike her hue. Also, I had huge, huge floor to ceiling windows and the purpose was to cut the glare down a bit with wall paint color. It was very relaxing,
Lisanham-
Try Stonington Gray from Benjamin Moore. It's light and neutral, so it won't make your room feel smaller. It's very restful on the eyes.
Love Cate's white bedding!
Best tip ever on the lighting!!!
I wouldn't worry about the color of artwork in any case. Many people are good at rotating what they show and store (hmmm...I haven't rotated in years). But as long as you like what you are displaying, I think it's hard to go wrong.
subtitles pretty please.
I used Silent Night from Benjamin Moore for my bedroom. It's such a cool, beautiful color that creates a very relaxing environment.
A medium gray paint that I love (in my kitchen!) is Baby Elephant by Clark+Kensington at Ace Hardware. Love it.
And, I love this bedroom! My "neutral" paint looks really greenish with the hard-wired wall sconces in my condo, so gray would probably be an improvement.
Cool grays recede and actually make spaces feel larger.
It's a lovely room and I adore the grey. I have three or four rooms painted in different shades of grey around my home and I find that any other colour coordinates well with grey. I have to disagree with you on closing in the space though. Grey does make rooms feel cosier than white for sure but I've always found that darker colours make walls recede and give rooms a bigger feel.
