I love your floors! I am buying house in three weeks and thinking of painting them white. All my friends are against it saying they will always look dirty. How's your experience been? Do you swiffer them constantly? I don't want to become a neurotic as a result of my floors ...

Kelley: The floors are painted a very light gray. It's a Benjamin Moore color called London Fog. I suggest the oil base (glossy). Even latex made specifically for floors will not stand up to any significant traffic. The odor may linger for a while, and it's a bit messy, but it's worth it in looks and durability.

I have no problem with keeping the floor clean with a sweep or vacuum once a week or so. In my experience, dark colors show more dirt.

By the way Kelley, many of my friends were mortified when I mentioned that I would be painting my floors. Go ahead and do the white if that's what you want.

Curtis: The chandelier was found on the curb in Bergen Co. New Jersey. It was created by Italian designer Vico Magistretti. The globes are Murano milk glass and they rest in those chrome rings--very tough to change a light bulb, since removing one globe unbalances the entire fixture!

What is the material on the wall between the dining area and kitchen? It looks like cor-ten steel, very beautiful!

Yes, it's 3/16 inch steel plate bolted to a plywood wall surface.
