We saw the rumor Tweets this morning and now, sadly, it's confirmed. Meredith's ReadyMade, one of our favorite DIY mags, is folding.
MediaBistro's FishbowlNY reports: "According to Ad Age, the magazine closure is part of cost-cutting measures at the publishing company. As with any magazine shuttering, the magazine will be missed, but the truly sad part is people losing their jobs. This move by Meredith reportedly resulted in 75 people losing employment."
In 2009, the Bay Area publication moved to Iowa, Meredith's headquarters, where it underwent a major redesign. Unfortunately, the changes weren't enough to save the mag. Links below the jump.

Moving to Iowa will never solve anything...
Damn! another goodie bites the dust.
So Sad!!
I still haven't recovered from losing Domino Magazine! Will miss you ReadyMade.
Aw, this is a bummer.
Plus, every time that a magazine dies, I have to order more trinkets off the internet to keep the what's-in-the-mail-today dream alive.
Sad too, I enjoyed what ReadyMade was becoming. Print ain't what it used to be!
Such a bummer. I just signed up for a 2 year subscription.
Wow. I've been a subscriber since they started and have to say, it was hard to continue year after year - with such great design/DIY websites out there, I found ReadyMade ineffective. I kept buying it because I like paper, but...I see why it happened.
The story of my life. (1) Blueprint Magazine (2) Met Home (3) ReadyMade.
This also happens to food with which I become enamored.
Honestly, Readymade didn't have much content. Every 'project' they had was either a) duh obvious or b) relied on some special find the crafter had and you'll never find so you can't recreate it.
I miss Blueprint and Domino too, though!
Does anyone know when the last issue is? Was it the one just sent out (cover above)? Does anyone have any idea what will happen if you do have a subscription? It would seriously suck to not have a refund if you still had issues coming on the sub.
OMG it's the only mag I subscribe to! $4 I will never see again (Brad's Deals)
I cant type "Aw..." sadly enough!
But then again, they never went monthly and THAT was a sin. It's hard to really get into a magazine that comes out Sometimes.
I feel ya ronsmom, same thing happens to me with restaurants.
Mr. Modtomic
sorry to hear that. I enjoyed the magazine.
This is so sad! I have been subscribing since 2005 and I loved Readymade. It was always a great christmas gift to give people. This is really a bummer!
I used to love Readymade, but when I finally got a subscription I realized they had gone downhill. Most of their DIY projects were 'go buy something and add a little something to it.' I will miss what it once was, but it was no longer living up to its original premise and it makes sense that it is going under. Especially when blogs like AT are out there.
I have a subscription for a full year, what's going to happen to the future issues that I am waiting for? are they going to refund their subscibers?
I am not surprised. I liked their pre-corporate magazine vibe, but once they went to Meredith, It all went downhill. How many ReadyMade articles happen in Iowa? It must be expensive to leave Iowa for every story. Readymade worked early because it was cheap to produce. They spent way too much money on this puppy.
I sympathize with fellow Domino mourners but the people that made domino great are still out there making great things.
I definitely had ups and downs with ReadyMade. I subscribed, then cancelled my subscription, but still bought it sometimes on the newsstand. Still, I am sooooo sad to see it go.
I wonder if their "print on demand book of 100 projects" thing is still available. Guess I should get it now if I want it!!!!
Blueprint, MetHome, Domino, ReadyMade.... A heartbreak every time.
Boo, I have the renewal notice sitting on my desk at home that was waiting on a decision. Guess I can throw it away now.
Glad I didn't taken them up on their 6.95 subscription offer. I just recieved another email about that today, which is a bit deceptive if they are not going to put out another year's worth of magazines.
In the past when a magazine has folded mid-subscription for me, the publisher replaces it with a similar magazine.
DITTO to this!
"Honestly, Readymade didn't have much content. Every 'project' they had was either a) duh obvious or b) relied on some special find the crafter had and you'll never find so you can't recreate it.
I miss Blueprint and Domino too, though!"
I always wanted to like ReadyMade more than I actually did like it and the above comment was exactly why. It was a great idea but - also to echo someone's point above - I can see why it failed if there are tons of DIY features online these days.
"Honestly, Readymade didn't have much content. Every 'project' they had was either a) duh obvious or b) relied on some special find the crafter had and you'll never find so you can't recreate it."
Same here! I got a free subscription a while back and really wanted to like it. But it turned out that I'd thumb through an issue in about 10 min. I get a lot more out of blogs and DIY sites.
The "old" Readymade was much better- before they made the move and redesigned. But still, one of the only decent decor magazines. Boo.
So sad! My friend Amy Devers was a columnist. I always enjoyed the magazine...so pretty to look at (I'm not much of a DIYer).
Oh I so miss Domino and Met Home! But unfortunately I wasn't really impressed with Readymade. There was usually one thing in each magazine that was neat.
When each of my design mags ended they replaced it with a fashion/gossip magazine.....sigh...and I'd have to write an email to get it changed, bleh
Can't say I'm surprised. I have to agree with:
"Honestly, Readymade didn't have much content. Every 'project' they had was either a) duh obvious or b) relied on some special find the crafter had and you'll never find so you can't recreate it."
and

I always felt like their magazine all fluff and far too full of ads for things subscibers would never buy. They never had enough projects, their articles could all be found somewhere else with more information, and what few projects they did have weren't that impressive. I kept reading in hopes that it would get better with age.
"I always wanted to like ReadyMade more than I actually did like it"
So true! I sure hope they replace my subscription with another magazine. I just re-upped!
This really sucks, Readymade was one of my favorite magazine...
