Remember these two? Their House Tour showcasing their playful and seriously mod aesthetic was a hit this summer. We loved their decor style so much, we asked them to fill us in on the other half of their personal style (which was heavily commented on by Apartment Therapy readers): their wardrobes! Read on for their creative takes on building a wardrobe, what pieces they couldn’t live without, and a blast from the past: their prom photo!
First up: Linzi!
Linzi Clary is a fine arts graduate with insane painting skills. She currently works as a designer at Speidel and in her free time enjoys eating potato chips and watching HGTV, but, for the purpose of self-preservation, she likes to knit, do hand-lettering, and listen to records with Spencer.
Your very favorite outfit: A shift dress, tights, a pair of flats, and a long coat.
The #1 item from your fashion wish list: Sven Clogs.
The TV or movie characters’ wardrobe(s) you’d steal in a minute: Anna Karina in A Woman Is a Woman or Blair Waldorf of Gossip Girl.
Your best bargain find ever: A Kate Spade coat I bought for $100 (it was originally $700!).
3 things from your closet you couldn’t live without: Black tights, a red dress, and a black dress. I always have to have one of each in my closet!
The item you no longer have but wish you did: Can it be an item that no longer fits? If so, a BB Dakota dress that is orange and blue and really mod. It doesn’t fit anymore but I am not getting rid of it!
Most fashionable friend and why: My friend Pegean. She can rock a blazer or menswear. I just cannot pull it off.
Your typical work “uniform”: Tights, a shift dress, flats, and a long coat. I recently caved and bought a pair of jeans because I was still wearing a dress on casual Fridays in the office. I always figure, why have a casual Friday? It's Mondays people dread and do not want to put an effort into what they wear!
Best fashion advice: Buy clothes that fit, even if you do not like the number of the size; you can always cut off the tag!
IRL shop: Queen of Hearts & Modern Love in downtown Providence.
Online shop: ModCloth
Makeup brand: Estée Lauder
Haircare brand: Dove
Best jeans: I only own one pair; so maybe don’t take my word! The pair I own are from Just USA; they are made in America and high-waisted.
Coolest sneakers: Keds (Red)
Signature scent: DAISY by Marc Jacobs.
Go-to source for style inspiration: Pinterest/1960s mod.
Next up, Spencer!
Spencer Tubbs is a shopkeeper and musician with a penchant for music (listening, composing, playing, and recording), grilling (he grilled 100 times last year and 66 times this year thus far), cooking (mostly rich, French-inspired sauces), and watching Nicolas Cage movies. Check out his blog, Hell is Other People in the Kitchen, for a good laugh and lots of salivating-inducing photos of meat (this coming from a vegetarian—it is truly worth your time).
Your very favorite outfit: My custom suit from Michael Kehoe in Burlington, VT.
The #1 item from your fashion wish list: My brother Mitchell’s shoe collection. He has a surprising amount of shoes.
The TV or movie characters’ wardrobe(s) you’d steal in a minute: Chuck Bass of Gossip Girl.
Your best bargain find ever: Italian leather shoes I got for $5 at the Salvation Army. They are worth upwards of $300.
3 things from your closet you couldn’t live without: My custom suit, a blazer, and a white t-shirt.
The item you no longer have but wish you did: A herringbone vest.
Most fashionable friend and why: Can I say myself?
Your typical work “uniform”: Levi’s, a chambray short-sleeved work shirt, and leather shoes.
Best fashion advice: Don’t be afraid to wear a tie. Remember, you’re not overdressed; anyone else not wearing a tie is underdressed.
IRL Shop: H&M or the Gap. Anywhere I can find a classic pair of slacks.
Online shop: I cannot remember the last time I shopped online.
Haircare brand: Suave—it's all in the name.
Best jeans: Levi's.
Coolest sneakers: Anything leather or a pair of Sperry's.
Signature scent: Hickory grill smoke.
Go-to source for style inspiration: Vintage Playboy.
