Family friends once remarked, half jokingly, that if you told me an occasion, I could tell you what we had for dessert. It's pretty true, especially when it comes to Thanksgiving. Hello, pumpkin pie.
I like baking and Iove almost every kind of pie and tart. That said, it's just not Thanksgiving without classic pumpkin. I crave that reliable, comforting flavor, and I stick with the recipe from the back of the Libby's can (no prepackaged pumpkin pie spice mix!) with my grandma's flaky crust. When I've felt adventurous I've made a pear frangipane tart and a cranberry tart with a cornmeal crust. Both were delicious and come recommended, but they were secondary.
