Unexpected and inexpensive, pennies are a gorgeous material to tile with. The rich warmth of copper and the use of coins with different levels of wear and tarnish give penny tiling a very pleasing and random texture and pattern. A post on Apartment Therapy featuring the penny floor at the Standard Grill in New York a year ago remained vivid in my memory and I thought the idea might be worth revisiting. Here's a roundup of examples of penny tiling.
