Bride & Groom: Martina Kolobara and Shea Slater
Wedding Date: May 21, 2016
Venue: Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha, Nebraska
Number of guests: 250

They say that the best thing about having a big wedding is being surrounded by all the people (and things) you love. And in this Nebraska couple's case, that includes a couple of pups and a whole museum full of modern art.

The Art Deco architecture of the Joslyn Art Museum provided an incredible backdrop for the day—between the Georgia Pink marble exterior and the massive sculptures inside, like the blown glass Chihuly piece that overlooked the reception room. But the details didn't disappoint, either. Martina and Shea kept things really classic, elegant and personal. Check out the gallery of the whole day, captured by the talented Andrea Bibeault, then read on to hear more about the day from Martina herself.

How did you meet?

Shea and I went to college together and worked at the same wireless carrier during school.

How would you describe your wedding style?

Classic and Fun

What was totally "you" about your wedding?

Great food, open bar, and lots of dancing—we love to entertain and have fun with our friends. Our wedding was a chance to throw a really great party to celebrate with all of our favorite people.

Biggest challenge:

The guest list. Shea is one of ten kids and we both have a large group of friends. We had a very hard time trimming the list to make a realistic wedding happen.

Proudest DIY:

My mother and her friends made lots of Croatian cookies and put together really adorable gift boxes of them for people to take home as well.

Most worthwhile splurge:

Our wedding planner, Tracey. She was an absolute game changer, making sure we had a beautiful wedding and she stayed on top of everything. She is a true professional and a great person to work with. Hire a good wedding planner—it more than pays for itself, saving you from spending more on poor choices and poor vendors. The second thing I have to mention was our amazing band! Take the time to find a killer band—they set the tone for the entire reception.

What we skipped or did without:

We didn't do a bouquet toss, garter toss or dollar dance. These are not really our style and I feel like they often take away from the good time people are having by causing an interruption in the flow.

Favorite detail:

The location. Having so many beautiful settings to enjoy and take photos in during the day made it feel extra special.

Favorite memory of the day:

Walking across the bridge at the Joslyn to join the reception and seeing all of our friends and family below. We were both blown away by all the love and support.

What our guests said:

"Most fun wedding ever!"

Your best advice for anyone planning a wedding:

Get a wedding planner, if you can. And finalize a guest list before you do anything else.

Thanks, Martina and Shea!
