We ventured to the DWR Bay Area Warehouse Sale on Friday afternoon, curious about whether the event would have changed much since the last sale two years (and who-knows-how-many-Studios) ago. We didn't get to Union City until after 1:30, so we missed the largest crowd -- a DWR staffer told us that there had been 400 people in line when they opened the doors at noon. (She also told us that the warehouse had been rented especially for the one-time event; so, sorry, the Bay Area company hasn't moved their warehouse back here.)
There was a long wait at the cash registers, as well as a long line of people waiting outside to pick up their purchases.
Items were about 30% off. Another DWR staffer told us that prices would be marked down further as the weekend went on, although many items wouldn't last that long.
So what did we see? Spread throughout the large warehouse were Sussex Credenzas, Globus Chairs, a Blu Notte Complete Bed, AVL Shaker Table and Chairs, a sole striped B-Pop Side Chair, a Superlight Chair, Hudson Chairs and Stools in brushed aluminum, a Bantam Sofa, a Noguchi Free-Form Sofa, Alu Media Stands, a white Murano Glass Chandelier, rugs and FLOR tiles, Accordion CD Holders, and Magma Vacuum Jugs.
We were reminded that if you're ordering from a catalog or website, be sure to read the measurements and other details carefully. The Medium Random Light, the Oval Pendant Lamp, the Blu Notte Complete Bed, and the Vas-One appeared HUGE in person. We were also disappointed in the fabric of the Ray Chair -- it would be much better in leather.
Oh, and showing, we didn't see any Aeron Chairs.
Anyone else go to the sale? Find anything?
