The U.S. produces about 800,000 oak barrels a year, according to 2 Day Designs, a reclaimed wine barrel furniture company. After the oak serves its purpose as wine barrels, much of it is destroyed, so we're beyond happy that designers are creating second lives for it! Rustic and woodsy, repurposed oak wine barrel furniture and accessories show their character with color variations, stains and distressed finish.
These oak pieces are sturdy and have already proved their mettle with their first lives as carriers of wine. With proper care, they'll last for generations.

Ok, I'm waiting for it- I am sure that it will be only a matter of moments before the nay-saying posters will pipe in to condemn AT for encouraging people to use reclaimed wine barrels to make furniture in that the wine barrels probably contain traces of the nitrates used to preserve the wine which will will leach into the bottoms of the people who sit on the benches causing headaches & potential alcohol poisoning...
I bought the cuddle bench for my parents 4 years ago. They're about an hour away from me and they do wonderful work!
Very creative and inspiring !
