Q: I'm a bit of a design magazine junkie. Dwell, Metropolis, Interior Design, Print and my new favorite Design Bureau (Metropolitan Home and I.D. are sorely missed). Suddenly a have a craving for a great garden/landscape design magazine. Standing in front of the selection at a local bookstore - most seem to be a bit cheesy and/or one offs. The only one that seemed to stand out was Garden Design. I would love to get Apartment Therapy readers recommendations and favorites.

You must not be at the right bookstore. Vroman's has a huge selection. But better than a magazine, buy the Sunset garden reference book.
Thank you for asking this! I was searching for just such a resource yesterday.
The average bookstore is more likely to carry average gardening magazines. Finding good gardening magazines and true landscape design publications is less common in North American bookstores. I say this as a landscape designer - in our office we rarely keep any of the more commonly available publications we find here, as long term references. We find the most interesting magazines in Europe.
That said, for the former, try Gardens Illustrated and for the latter, Landscape Architecture Magazine.
What I would really like is for apartmenttherapy to do a gardening blog. I feel like any magazine is going to assume I have much more space, time, and resources to devote to gardening than I do- and geared toward an older demographic. How about it, AT?
BBCs Gardener's World is the best garden magazine available to the general public! The climate is the same as Seattle's so you can grow most everything there if you live in the PNW. Great designs, instructions and tips
Fine Gardening is my favorite by far. Last time I looked Garden Design was more of a "look but don't touch" kind of feel. Beautiful lanscapes to be inspired by but don't try this at home. Fine Gardening is full of great how-tos and inspiration.
I love Garden Gate Magazine (http://www.gardengatemagazine.com/). There is no advertising, directions are clear and ideas are very specific outlining for all zones.
Another vote for fine gardening
I'd love a magazine about outdoor spaces, not just gardening and landscaping. In decorating blogs (like this one) and magazines, I so often read how people stress incorporating the outside space into the indoor space. Yet, I find myself straining to find photos and any useful information about decorating and furnishing outdoor spaces in the postings and articles that tout such a philosophy. When there is a spread on outdoor furniture, it's so unrealistic. I mean, there's never a mention about bugs, pollen, dropping leaves, morning dew, outdoor electric supply, and all the myriad things we need to consider when we open our homes to the outside. I'd love to see how people deal with real outdoor living...do they have to lug all those gorgeous cushions in every night? How do they deal with the bugs and sun and dirt? I adore spending time and entertaining outdoors, and I'd love to see ideas about decorating, maintaining and DIY on a realistic budget for outdoor spaces.
I'm seconding ek76, pleease do a garden design blog, apartment therapy!
Oh, I forgot to mention, try Jamie Durie's "The Outdoor Room" Magazine.
In case someone is interested in seeing in person wonderful gardens and not just on the pages of a magazine, I strongly recommend Gardenvisit from Tom Turner:

Gardens from all over the world.
I like the idea of a gardening and outdoor design blog from AT.
Here's a link to Jamie Durie's online magazine: http://patiobyjamiedurie.com.au/
Garden Design has a website (complete with desired blog). www.GardenDesign.com
My fav commercial mag is the British one, Gardens Illustrated, but I also think Matt Mattus's self pub magazine on Magcloud.co, called PLANT SOCIETY is yummy! Amazing pics, ideas and graphics ( his blog Growing with Pants is designed well too, but it might be too botanically fancy for most of us).
What happened to the old Garden Design magazine masthead design? This new design feels so, um, dated.). And yeah....like I can afford to hire a landscape architect!
Fine Gardening. And books, from the library or your own collection... (I find a lot at second hand stores, especially on water gardening and Japanese gardens, two areas I especially like to read about.)
perfect -- thanks all for the thoughts and ideas -- i'll be looking into the suggestions!
Topos Magazine - (really a quarterly) must be special ordered from Munich but its worth the effort and the cost.
Yes, pls have a gardening segment on AT.
