We're planning a trip to Palm Springs this coming weekend so we've been surfing a lot of hotel websites. We've always found a lot of inspiration in hotel design; this photo, from the Parker Palm Springs, reminded us that the classic Butterfly Chair is as inviting outside as it is inside.
Whether made from canvas or vinyl weave, it's a great place to curl up for an afternoon outside with a book or the paper, more comfortable and sexier than many outdoor offerings. We'd pair it with a porcelain chinese garden stool, a lucite table or rough hewn log table...or, as here, a firepit. Available via Circa50

My very first piece of furniture I purchased was the Butterfly Chair. That picture looks like a civilized camp chair..sitting around the camp fire.

My folks had one when I was a kid - I loved sitting in that chair. I later bought one when I moved out of the house - I think my Sis got it when I joined the USAF...
...I've been thinking of getting a couple for my balcony - if I do, it will definately be the fixed-frames from Circa50 rather than a cheap-o folding frame.
I like that picture.
But it's kind of weird. Because there's no way to get in to sit down???
Is this one of those summer sports, with the ceremonial "leaping of the end table with lit candle" fest...
...followed by flailing into the fire pit?
I got the giggles now. Maybe no one is supposed to sit there. Maybe it's "art".
You'd have to squeeze between chairs, which would probably be a couple of people, you know, a COUPLE. Which is kind of rude.
But the alternative is setting your blouse or shirt on fire via those candles. Like that scene in Mrs. Doubtfire.
And if I could do one of those frame by frame movies, that would be a great image to play with. Of butterfly chairs scampering across the lawn to warm themselves by the fire.
Funny...I googled butterfly chairs just yesterday! Not sure how big you are true blue, but I think I could find my way into the circle.
The square tables break the curvy design. i'd use round tables. 'm with #9 about no space to get in to sit down, even though the cjairs are very lightweight. If you're ever at the Parker, don't miss out on brunch at Norma's. Try the French Press coffee. Total Bliss.
